After your Level 1 BSA team determines the student's lagging skills please look at the list below to determine the appropriate safety interventions and educational components for the student's safety plan. This list is not exclusive. If your team has additional ideas please feel free to implement them.
Social Interventions
Help student develop positive peer relationships
Give student a Connector Staff - Regular connection with a positive, prosocial adult
Social skills group to restock their social “toolbox” with appropriate strategies
Help the student to recognize social cues and respond appropriately
Emotional Regulation
Institute mindfulness training as a universal practice for the whole class
Extra sessions of mindfulness app for the student
Work with an adult to develop increased coping skills
Family Assistance
Connect family with 4J social worker to help stabilize the family
Refer family (or student) to external therapist
Give family resources for after hours (Ex. Whitebird Clinic - 541-342-8255)
Substance abuse support
Refer to McKinney Vento support for housing
Academic
Reduce academic load / shorten day temporarily
Monitor academic assignments for signs of ongoing concerns
504 referral
Referral for SPED evaluation
Increase Positives in the Student’s Life
Find extracurricular activities in the community or school
Volunteer / Meaningful work
Family identified protective factors (spiritual community, relatives, cultural connections)
Allowing the student to lead in an area of mastery (supervision provided)
Faith community connections
Technology
Restrict access to technology
Intermittent checks of search histories
Supervision of social media posts
Restriction of social media by parents
Student turns in phone every morning or start of class period
Safety Restrictions
Restrict access to all weapons conversation with parents (can be LE)

Psychological Safety for Staff
Have a meeting with teachers - provide RELEVANT information
Provide safety plan for everyone involved in it
Invite a Behavioral Safety Assessment Coordinator to present on BSA to your staff
Other Safety Measures
No fault reporting - Provide means by which student may safely report and discuss thoughts or intentions to harm self or others
Refer surrounding students to SafeOregon to report ongoing concerns
Increase supervision in hallways, classrooms, and outside
