Reading: The Daily 5 is a structure that helps students develops the daily habits of reading, writing, and working independently that will lead to a lifetime of literacy independence. The Daily 5 is made up of 5 components, they are; Read to Self, Work on Writing, Read to Someone, Listen to Reading, and Word Work. We will have three 20 min. sessions where students will be practicing these five areas. During this time students will also spend time in small group learning. 

4j is adopting a new English Language arts program for the 2022 and 2023 year. Students will be engaged in 3 programs. Fundations and Haggerty curriculum cover the how to read. Whit and Wisdom focuses on reading comprehension, grammar and writing. Geodes allows for small group learning and leveled curriculum. Topics in 2nd grade include: Seasons, The American west, Civil Rights Heros, and Good Eating Habits. 

Spelling: The Fundations word study program incorporates spelling practice. 

Science: Students will be engaged in the 4j district's Foss Curriculum. The units of study for fall is earth science of rocks, pebbles and silt. Winter term will be solids and liquids. Spring will be life science. 

Social Studies: Students will be engaged in mini lessons about their world. 

Health: Students will learn the new 4j curriculum called The Great Body Shop.
