How Does Middle School Cause/Relate to Stress
By: Austin C.
When school is brought up many people think of how stressful it can be and overall stress itself, but why is this and what can this stress cause.
One of the main things school has that stresses me out is homework. This form of stress can cause a stress called chronic stress. This is a stress that can last for a long time even after the main stress component has been dealt with and is no longer near or affecting the person. This can happen because the homework has not been finished and still needs to be dealt with or can happen because the person is worried about the same problem happening again. Another form of stress is acute stress; which happens in the moment and goes away quickly. For example when you fall or when you are fighting. These are all things that can go away quickly but cause stress in the moment. A stressor in school that can cause acute stress is a pop quiz or being told that you got a bad score on your test.
Stress can cause many things that aren't good for your body including an increase in blood pressure. If this lasts a long time throughout your life it can lead to cardiovascular problems which can be dangerous. Another thing stress can cause is headaches such as migraines which can feel like a sickness which is enough to keep you from working or going to school. Another thing stress can cause is an increased breathing rate which for people with breathing problems can be dangerous. Both the high blood pressure and high breathing rate can cause a heart attack. But not to worry since you can always use calming techniques such as deep breaths and relaxing music.
So remember to keep working hard so you don't have to worry about stress being a worry in school because it is not good for your body to stress too much. There are always easy ways to calm down during a stressful situation in school so make sure you stay on top of work when going into middle school.
