Eugene 4J is Going Green!
For over eight years, Eugene School District 4J has been taking meaningful steps toward creating climate-friendly, sustainable practices across all departments and buildings. As a School Board priority, we are committed to cultivating a culture of zero-waste habits and environmental awareness—and setting an example for districts statewide and nationwide.

📚 Curricular Integration
In 2019, the 4J School Board unanimously adopted a Climate Resolution that laid the groundwork for action across our district. That same year, we joined the City of Eugene’s Climate Collaborative and became part of the City of Eugene Climate Action Plan 2.0.
Despite the pause caused by COVID-19, our commitment continued behind the scenes—laying the foundation for a more sustainable return to in-person learning.
In school year 2025–26, we will be launching the 4J Climate Action Plan, a five-year strategy that brings our 2019 resolution to life. Beginning in 2025–26, this plan will guide climate-conscious practices district-wide through a coordinated effort by the 4J Climate Action Task Force.
Vision:
To foster an equitable, sustainable, climate-conscious school district that promotes environmental stewardship, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and prepares students for a resilient and equitable future through education, action, and collaboration.
Mission:
To integrate climate literacy and sustainability practices into all aspects of Eugene School District 4J’s operations and instruction, fostering an informed, engaged, and resilient community.
Sustainability and climate change are part of Oregon’s academic standards in Science, Social Studies, and Health. Our district is identifying natural curricular connections and integrating climate literacy across grade levels.
