Club Information 2022-2023

Art Club

Advisor: Ms. Maritato mmaritat@3villagecsd.org

Day of Week: Thursday, Time: 2:30-3:45 pm in room 305 starting October 6th. Art club is a place for practicing artists to hone their skills and develop techniques. We will also work collaboratively on group projects that will beautify the school and community. A Google classroom code will be provided on the first day of the club. I will have all the club meeting dates listed in the classroom.

Chamber Orchestra

Each year students from the seventh, eighth, and ninth grade orchestras can audition for a spot in the Gelinas Chamber Orchestra, a high level ensemble that brings together the most advanced string players at Gelinas. The goal of the ensemble is to push you to your playing limits through challenging and diverse repertoire. The Chamber Orchestra meets after school on Wednesdays from 5-6:30pm in the orchestra room. Please check the Gelinas Music Department Auditions google classroom page for more information. Auditions will take place next week starting on Monday.

Chess Club

Open chess play for beginners and experienced chess players; occasional tournaments. This club will be every other Monday, right after school in the library.

Community Connections Club

Community Connections is a community service club for 7th and 8th graders. If you love getting involved and helping the community, this is the club for you. Some activities that we get involved with are an annual coat and pet drive as well as work closely with the Ronald McDonald Family Room at the Stony Brook Children's Hospital. We meet twice a month on Wednesdays. Our first meeting will be on September 21st at 2:30 pm in Room 203.

Creativity Club

Creativity Club offers a variety of experiences to students using different materials and creative skills. Students will have the opportunity to explore painting, sculpture, candy making, gardening and more. Meetings will be every other Wednesday after school from 2:40-4:00pm. Our first meeting will be Tuesday, October 4, 2022.

Drama Club - Fall (9th Grade Adolescent Issue Play)

The 9th Grade Adolescent Issue Play is for 9th graders ONLY who are chosen through an audition process. Members are accepted from all of the performing groups. Rehearsals are once/twice a week after school. A rehearsal schedule will be provided to all students chosen to be in the production. Rehearsals Wednesdays/Thursdays 2:30 - 4:00pm in the auditorium.

Gelinas Environmental Club

Meets the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month at 2:45 in Room 211. lguarini@3villagecsd.org The Gelinas Environmental Association is a student founded club that aims to bring awareness and reform to our community about the importance of issues concerning our environmental impact on the planet and society. We host beach clean-ups, organize fundraisers and awareness events, and brainstorm ideas to further educate and inspire others about helping our world stay clean and safe for future generations.

Gelinas LGBTQ

Gelinas LGBTQ Club will start on Thursday, 9/29. We plan to meet every other week starting from that date in the room next to the Guidance conference room.

Greenhouse Club

Advisor: Mr. Stiegelmaier kstiegel@3villagecsd.org

We will meet on Tuesday''s in room 108 until the first late bus starting October 18th. We will be working in the school greenhouse, helping maintain our outside garden, planting veggies and flowers, cooking and eating fresh produce, as well as raising and selling flowers. Club is open to all grade levels.

Home and Careers Club

Home & careers club will be held on Wednesday's. We will be alternating the weeks between the 7th graders and 8th/9th graders. It will be held after school until the late bus comes in room 301 starting October 5.

Jazz Band

Jazz Band is an after school ensemble consisting primarily of saxophones, trombones, trumpets, piano, drums, guitar, and bass. Auditions are required. Rehearsals will be held once a week on Thursdays from 5:00-6:15pm in the auditorium.

Key Club

Key Club is a high school community service club for 9th graders. This club is all about giving back to our community. We host Trick or Treat Street in the fall at Ward Melville, the Senior Citizen Prom in the spring, and many other community service activities throughout the year. Our first meeting is on Monday, September 19th at 2:30 pm in room 203.

Lighting Club

Our crew lights all concerts, award ceremonies, and theatrical productions for the building. We meet in the auditorium based on the schedule of events or rehearsal schedule. Start date: 10/25.

Makerspace Club

Makers Space Club offers a variety of experiences to students using different materials. It provides hands-on, creative ways to encourage students to design, experiment, build and invent as they deeply engage in science, engineering and tinkering. We will meet Tuesdays after school, from 2:40-4:00pm. Our first meeting will be Tuesday, October 11th.

Model UN

The Junior High Model UN is a club that introduces students to how the United Nations works. It is run by high school students. It is a simulation of the UN General Assembly and its other multilateral bodies where students perform an ambassador role while debating topics such as gender equality, climate action, global health, and more. We will meet Mondays in room 210 from 2:30 - 4:00 pm. The first meeting will be Monday, October 17th.

National Art Junior Honor Society

The Gelinas NJAHS Chapter is open to 8th and 9th graders only. We meet every Thursday after school from 2:30 to 4:00 pm in room 303. Our focus is art-based service projects for the school, community and the world! Admission is by application only. Please see Mr Sacco in room 303 for more information on how to apply!!

National Junior Honor Society

The National Junior Honor Society will be meeting on the first Tuesday of each month in the cafeteria. Students will plan and complete service activities in order to better our community. All information will be found on the google classroom page. Our first meeting will be held on 10/4/22.

Red Cross Club

The Red Cross Youth Club is a club that supports the service activities of the Red Cross. The Red Cross Service activities are Disaster Relief, International Humanitarian Aid, Health & Safety Training, Life Saving Blood Drives, Military Support. Join the Red Cross Club, if you are interested in participating in activities such as learning hands only CPR, organizing drives to support people in need, supporting our Local Veterans to name a few. Community service hours can be earned. RCYC Meetings are Friday, after school from 2:30 – 4:00. Room 107 First Meeting is October 7th, 2022.

Science Bowl

Science Bowl is a club for 7th and 8th grade students to prepare for the middle school level Science Bowl Competition. The Science Bowl Competition is a science knowledge competition which uses a quiz format with a buzzer system to respond to questions dealing with Life Science, Physical Science, Earth and Space Science, Energy and Mathematics . Students on the Science Bowl team will compete against other middle school students in our region, as well as students across the country, depending on how well the team performs. The weekly meetings will involve student/teacher discussions, studying and mock competitions to prepare our Gelinas Science bowl team for the upcoming competition(s).

Science Olympiad

Science Olympiad is a team of students that compete in science competitions throughout the year. We function like a sports team in that we require preparation, coaching and teamwork in order to succeed in the multitude of science events in each tournament. The Woodworking club will be meeting in room 309 starting on September 28th. This club will be meeting every Wednesday from 2:30-4:00 . This club is only available to 8th and 9th grade students.

The Gelinas Theatre Company is excited to announce that the Spring Musical this year will be Once Upon A Mattress! All students in all grades are welcome! Auditions for lead roles and regular sign ups for ensemble will be in December and rehearsals will begin in January. If you have any questions, see Mr. Meier in the band room.

Three Village Mock Trial

The Three Village Mock Trial Club will meet Wednesdays, 2:30-3:30 pm in Room 205 beginning Wednesday, October 5th. Junior high mock trial is open to students from grades 7-9. We will explore issues in the law and civics while learning the ins and outs of preparing for and participating in mock trial enactments. Participants can sharpen their reasoning and public speaking skills throughout the year. Ninth-grade students have the option of trying out for the Ward Melville competition team, which meets at the high school.

Tri-M Music Honor Society

Tri-M Jr. Music Honor Society is a group of students that are dedicated to the music program at Gelinas and are able to maintain strong academics. Students must be in 8th or 9th grade. Membership is based on applicants enrollment in music classes, grades, community service, and leadership. Meetings are normally held on Wednesday from 2:30 - 3:00pm. Applications are required..

Ultimate Frisbee Club

Vocal Vikings

Vocal Vikings is a select choral group open to all 7th, 8th and 9th graders who are chosen rdepersi@3villagecsd.org through an audition process. Members are accepted from all of the performing groups. The Vikings sing at a variety of functions, both in and out of school. Rehearsals are once a week after school on Tuesdays. Auditions will be announced in all music classes soon. Rehearsals- Tuesdays 2:30 - 4:00 in room319/Auditorium.

Wind Ensemble
