Registration

Registration for program courses takes place via ESTHER and opens 5 weeks before the next quadmester start date. Continuing students must register for at least one course by 5pm on Friday of the first week of registration or they will be subject to a late registration fee. Students may add additional courses or swap existing courses/sections, if available, through the first week of the quadmester and drop through the second week.

Unless previously approved by their Student Success Advisor (SSA), students on the tradition 2-year track typically register for 6 credit hours per quadmester. Throughout the program, and based on specific offereings, students may add 1.5-3.0 additional credits to fulfill a required Intensive Learning Experience or to complete the one additional required elective outside of the standard 6-credit hour cadence.

Students can only register for up to 7.5 credits each quad (unless they are taking core residential courses and can take 9 credits that quad).

Students receive communications in advance of each registration period, notifying them of the upcoming registration dates, and are encouraged to meet with their dedicated SSA to review intended academic plan. They must clear a series of holds before they are able to register and registering for courses each quadmester is the student’s responsibility.

The following courses are not available for self-registration and will also show a “closed course” error if a student attempts direct registration:

See the Register for Courses Guide for step-by-step instructions for registration.

Holds

Holds may placed on student accounts one-week before registration opens each quadmester and must be cleared on ESTHER before a student can register - this may not be applicable each quadmester.  Recurring registration holds include:

See the Remove Holds Guide for step-by-step instructions for holds removal.

Add/Drop Policy

Students should plan their upcoming quadmester with their SSA in advance of registration opening, including back-up options for any full sections encountered.  Continuing students must register for at least one course by 5pm on Friday of the first week of registration, but should aim to register for their full course load this week.  Newly enrolled students should register as soon as they receive their university credentials and are able to log into ESTHER.

Students may continue to make changes to their schedule through the registration period for the quadmester.  They may add additional courses or swap any existing courses/sections through the first week of the quadmester and may drop through the second week.  Specific deadlines for each quadmester can be found on the Academic Calendar for that quadmester.

Course lengths may vary per quadmester: full-term course at 10-weeks long, term 1 at weeks 1-5, and term 2 at weeks 6-10. All parts of the quadmester, including Term 2 courses and ILEs, are subject to the quadmester-level add and drop deadlines.  Late drops may be considered on a case-by-case basis and will remain on the transcript with a grade of "W".

Priority Elective Registration

Students entering their final two quadmesters of the program are given advanced registration access for electives and should register for their preferred electives in the first 48-hours that registration is open. All other elective-eligible students may register for open elective courses 48-hours after registration opens.

Additionally, we reserve a limited number of seats for students who complete the Electives Demand survey in advance of each quadmester.  If a course fills up and one of these priority students requests to be added to the waitlist, they will be given one of these reserved seats, if available, or else given priority for any seats that open up during the add period for the quadmester.

Closed Course Waitlist

Course sections are capped each quadmester in order to balance demand across all available sections and to optimize the experience for both the students and the instructors.

If a student encounters a full section (which presents with a “closed course” error during registration*), they should complete the Waitlist Request Form if they wish to be registered for that section if a seat becomes available. If the student is able to participate in an alternate open section of the course, they should register for that section (but may still request to be on the waitlist for their preferred section).  If the closed section(s) of the course are the only ones that will work for the student (due to valid work or life conflicts), they should communicate this to their SSA so that a note can be added to their waitlist request.

Students on the waitlist are registered for their requested section only if a seat becomes available in that section.  Completing a waitlist request does not guarantee a spot in the requested section.

Policies and Fees

LATE REGISTRATION FEE

All returning students are required to register for courses by 5:00pm CT on the Friday of the week registration opens. If a student fails to register for at least one (1) course in time, they are subject to a late registration fee of $75.

Additionally, students will be subject to a second late registration fee of an additional $125 if they register for courses after the quadmester begins.

PROGRAM REGISTRATION POLICY

Students are required to finish, or be registered for, all courses within one quadmester prior to moving on to the next quadmester.

For example: you cannot skip ahead to quad 3 courses until you finish (or are registered for) all quad 2 courses. You will not be elective eligible until you finish (or are registered for) all quad 4 courses.

Waiver Policy

The JGSB does not grant waivers for any course, regardless of work and education history. Students are required to take all courses prescribed in the MBA curriculum.
