Principal Investigator

Soo Jeoung “Crystal” Han

Soo Jeoung Han is an Assistant Professor at the Graduate School of Education at Yonsei University located in South Korea. She was an Assistant Professor in Organizational Performance and Workplace Learning (OPWL) program in the College of Engineering at Boise State University. She attained her Ph.D. in the Department of Educational Administration & Human Resource at Texas A&M University. She earned her B.A. in English Education from Korea University in South Korea. Crystal has greatly enjoyed teaching in universities and professional organizations in both the U.S. and Korea over 10 years (e.g., large and small classes in K-12, university, and various companies, such as Google Korea and the government).

Her research interests include the field of virtual team building, cross-cultural diversity, executive leadership, and shared leadership development. She has published several articles and book chapters on the topics of multinational virtual teams and team leadership. She published articles in journals, such as Small Group Research, Human Resource Development Review, Human Resource Development Quarterly, European Journal of Training and Development, and Team Performance Management: An International Journal.

Lab Manager

Jie Chen

She is a Human Performance Technology (HPT) practitioner who helps the clients with needs assessment, learning programs, and evaluation. She graduated in Fall 2017 with a Master of Science degree in Organizational Performance and Workplace Learning from Boise State University. She has been volunteering for ISPI Bay Area/Boise State(BABS) Chapter as their Marketing and Communication Chair since 2016. She can be reached at chenjie.jc@gmail.com.

Emily Poitevin

Emily Poitevin is currently Dr. Han’s graduate assistant and working on earning her MS degree in Organization Performance and Workplace Learning. She graduated with her BBA in Entrepreneurial Management from Boise State University in 2006 and is currently working as a retail manager. She is particularly interested in employee motivation as well as designing more effective training programs in the ever-changing retail industry. Nani Hazard

Nani is a current Graduate Assistant for Dr. Han. She began the Organizational Performance and Workplace Learning program in summer 2019, where she plans to earn a MS degree. Nani graduated from Washington State University’s Carson School of Business in 2017 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration focusing in Human Resources. Prior to being Dr. Han’s GA, she worked as a Retention Manager for a TRIO SSS educational grant. Lauren Johnson

Lauren Johnson graduated in December 2020 with a Master of Science degree in Organizational Performance and Workplace Learning from Boise State University, and earned both the Workplace E-Learning and Performance Support, as well as the Workplace Instructional Design graduate certificates. She is currently working as an instructional designer at a pharmacy and medication management solutions organization. Karen Mitchell

Karen Mitchell is the Founder and Owner of Omm Office LLC, an organization that uses mindfulness as a workplace performance tool helping people and organizations meet goals and produce content. Karen is currently completing both an MS in Organizational Performance and Workplace Learning, and a graduate certificate in Workplace Instructional Design at Boise State University. Karen has studied and practiced mindfulness for ten years and she has worked as a project manager within the media industry and government over 15 years. Beth Szabo

Beth Szabo is an Instructional Designer at VSP Vision Care focusing on performance improvement for sales. She is passionate about helping people learn and grow, and is particularly interested in accountability and motivational research. Beth is currently completing her Masters in Organizational Performance and Workplace Learning at Boise State University. Beth is a yogi and yoga teacher in her spare time and understands the power of the mind – which has led her to this lab and growth mindset research. She can be reached at bethszabo@u.boisestate.edu.

Collaborator

Dr. Michael Beyerlein

Michael Beyerlein is a Professor in the Human Resource Development Graduate Program at Texas A&M University. Formerly, he was professor and department head of Organizational Leadership & Supervision at Purdue and prior to that Founding Director of the Center for Collaborative Organizations and Professor of Industrial/Organizational Psychology at the University of North Texas. His books, book chapters, and articles usually address the topics of teams and collaboration, creativity and innovation, knowledge management, and intangible capital. His research interests include: team creativity, emergence of virtual organizations, and innovation science. His most recent edited book is The handbook for high performance virtual teams (2008) with Jill Nemiro and others.
