2021 National Day Fireworks makes its grand return to Kaohsiung! After 20 years, the much-anticipated national day fireworks returns to Kaohsiung Harbor tonight (October 10th). President Tsai Ing-wen, together with President of the Legislative Yuan and Preparatory Committee Chairman You Si-Kun, and Kaohsiung City Mayor Chen Chi-Mai, attended the national day celebration, and set off the fireworks with a 10-second countdown and the wave of a badminton racket. The splendid fireworks marked the birthday celebration of the Republic of China, and witnessed Kaohsiung Port’s reopening and transformation.

Kaohsiung City Mayor Chen Chi-Mai recalled that 20 years ago, towering walls could still be seen in Kaohsiung Harbor. With the effort of the City Mayor and the citizens, the establishment of Kaohsiung Port Warehouse No. 2 (KW2), the Pier-2 Art Center, Kaohsiung Music Center and Kaohsiung Exhibition Center around the harbor have made the Asia New Bay Area the main highlight of Kaohsiung. Kaohsiung has also been transformed into a livable city. In addition, the city government cooperated with the central government in building the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying) and Kaohsiung Music Center, enabling the cultural and creative industry to flourish.

President Tsai Ing-wen said that high-tech companies are scrambling to set up branch offices at the Asia New Bay Area and Qiaotou Science Park.
