Development PAD for Bilirubin quantification using blood samplesAly Xiong '15

Abstract: Levels of bilirubin have been used as a measurement to help determine liver health. Hepatitis B is an incurable infection of the liver that affects more 52 million people in developing countries. Many current diagnostic test use urine analysis or complex blood analysis that is not easily accessible for people in developing countries. The purpose of this research was to develop a paper analytical device that can be used as a simple diagnostic test that determines normal and above normal levels of bilirubin in the blood. It was hypothesized that the diazonium salts to be used would yield an observable color change in solution. Tests done with the diazonium salts proposed to be part of the device was unuselful in determining levels of bilirubin, thus, this did not support our hypothesis.
