February 26, 2018 Minutes

Guests: State Rep. Mary Keefe; City Councilor Kate Toomey; Ron Hayes of The Bridge of Central Mass.; Iris, representative of Southern Middlesex Opportunity Council; Lieutenant D. Doherty of Worcester Police Department; Officer Toomey of Worcester Police Department; Patrick Duggan of Worcester Inspectional Services Department; , John O’Hara, manager of Lincoln Street branch of Commerce Bank; and Brian McCarthy, president of Green Hill Park Coalition

Inspectional concerns: Problem properties identified at prior meetings are being addressed.

Other problem properties have been identified.

Trash areas have been identified and will be addressed. Neighbors from Channing House and Linda Fay Griffin House volunteered to pick up trash. GHNA will supply trash bags. They also offered shoveling services to elderly neighbors.

Police report: Lt. Doherty visited the 25 Catharine St. site of SMOC, and stated it was a clean and orderly building. GHNA requested a contact person to alert to issues.

Commerce Bank had a police issue, and shared positive report on how it was handled.

Information about the Police Academy will be coming

Information was provided about thefts at the Worcester East Side Community Development Corp. building on Forbes Street. A guard is now present at night.

Street lights have been reported as being out. Councilors Carlson and Toomey have filed orders.

A neighbor shared the Worcester Police app for use by residents.

Earth Day: Worcester Earth Day is Saturday, April 7 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. We will have at least four sites. We need volunteers

Other issues were Worcester Regional Transit Authority complaints. Rep. Keefe spoke about the financial issues. There is at least one public meeting scheduled.

The Mass. Department of Transportation property was addressed. Trash is continuing to mount around the highway overpasses. This will be brought to the city manager’s attention

Ideas were shared, to bring to the attention of the city manager at the neighborhood meeting this week. Great input.
