JNL: What Math Shape Am I?

If I were a shape I believe I’d be a square. There are many reasons for this statement. At first it seems like a boring shape, it’s standard. A flat 2-D object that everybody knows about and not many people care about, but it’s more than that. It would be easier to pick a fun and different shape and claim that my strange personality fits it, but that wouldn’t be accurate. My opinion on the matter doesn’t matter in actuality because I am a square. There are many things about the square that get overlooked and I will list many of those in the following paragraphs.

I’m not going to claim squares aren’t boring, because they are. They’re definitely the least exciting of the parallelograms. They are also stable, and constant, and very even. They need to be specific, if all four sides aren’t equal, they’re no longer a square, but a rectangle. They’ve been this way forever, never changing, always remaining the standard basic shape. I believe this fits me very well. I am a stubborn person, change is not my favorite thing, and I like to stay the same. I consider myself very stable and even in my ability to remain calm in difficult situations. I like to follow rules, which can be related to the hard and sharp edges of the square. I often find myself boxed into certain ideas without a way to get out of them. Squares aren't going anywhere anytime soon, they’ll remain the same most likely forever. I like to think of myself as someone who can be trusted and counted on. I can help others begin to understand a subject, but I’m bad at going into further detail, like a square as people learn about shapes. I response to the claim I made earlier about squares being boring, I still agree with that. I believe I’m a pretty boring person. I don’t have much drama or interesting things going on in my life. My favorite activities are sleeping, reading, and writing. I’m not the most exciting person and I don’t want to be. I like living my life as a square.

In conclusion, I am a square, not because it’s easy, or simple, or basic, but because it’s a bit of being stubborn, a bit of being stable, and a bit of a bore. I’m not a three dimensional object, that would most likely be too much for me to take. I like to think I mesh well with the other shapes. I believe realizing I’m a square will help me live to my full potential in my own way. Recognizing that I’m not the most fun person, but I live a good life as a square is important. My personality reflects that of a square, and I’m proud of it.

In math, there are many different shapes that exist. From simple squares and triangles to complex hexagons and decahedrons, there are many varieties of them. Each has their own characteristic and manner that only represents itself. If I had to chose a shape to describe myself, I would chose a sphere.

As a sphere, it is a three dimensional object with no points, edges, or any type of indention to it’s surface. It is all around a smooth shape. I feel as though I would be a sphere because of the all around, jack of all trades sort of deal. I play music, I love sports, I (hope) that I’m fairly good at education. I love math and science, and enjoy writing and reading. But I also love talking to people and socializing. All these traits help me who I am today, and making me hopefully an all around person to be. This is similar to a sphere because it literally is ‘’all a round’’. Also, as a sphere it is a three dimensional object. It’s complex in not only its shape but also its calculations of depth, volume, diameter, etc. Me myself, I feel as though I am also very complex. What people see on the outside isn’t always comparable to that on the inside. I’m not just one person in the many in this world; I’m an individual person with their own thoughts, ideas, hobbies, and life. I like to think deeper than what people might just normally see.

In all, shapes have their own stories to tell. Whether it be their physical characteristics, or the traits you perceive them to have, we all have our own shapes that define who we are.

If I were to compare myself to a shape, it would be a sphere. Spheres are round, smooth and 3D. Like a sphere I am well-rounded. I feel as though I have a good balance in a number of areas, especially a good balance between school and personality. I work smart instead of just working hard alone, leaving time to develop my personality and interests outside of school. Thus giving myself the chance to improve on many areas at once. I can roll with the punches when things get too much and also not let myself get too worked up over things that are out of my control.

Like a sphere I am also smooth. I am neither rough nor am I spikey, making me approachable. I will not hurt you but give you support and love instead. I am a very easy going person and very easy to become friends with. I also am loyal and am willing to help my friends smooth out a rough patch. Through helping my friends, I improve my listening skills along with social, and critical thinking skills. I am also smooth during social situations, knowing what to say and what to do when conversations go south. I also know that when things get rough it’s ok, just roll with it.

A sphere is 3D. We perceive it as real, something we can physically touch that exists in front of us with depth. I am a very real person. I do not like pretending to be someone that I am not, neither do I like people that pretend to be something that they are not. I am upfront about my loyalty and is a good person for my friends to to trust and talk to. Even though sometimes I dream too, I still hold myself down with a bit of realism. If I have a big goal, my realistic self will tell me to take baby steps. Like any 3D shape, I also have depth. There’s many layers of myself. The more you get to know me, the more depth you see. Therefore I think I am most like a sphere.

There are many shapes in math. These shapes can be used to describe some people’s personalities. If I had to choose a shape that best represents my personality I would choose a cone. I say this because I recently took an online quiz on what shape I was most like. The quiz said that I was most like a cone and then gave reasons why. I felt as though the descriptions were accurate so I decided to agree with the quiz.

After a series of questions I received the shape of a cone. The reasoning behind this was because like a cone I am sharp, focused and alert. I think this description suits me because I try to stay focused in my classes and I always try to be alert and aware of my surroundings. Another way that I am sharp is when people try to roast me. I always have a sharp or witty comeback.

The quiz also said that I look for the finer points in life but that I also don’t ignore the big picture. It was almost right on this one. I like to often focus on more important things and I like to make sure to focus on the big picture and not always small details. I especially do focus on finer points on projects to ensure that I have everything that is needed. So I don’t do it all the time but every now and then I do focus on the finer points in life.

In conclusion if I could see myself as a shape I would be a cone. This is because I am sharp and alert and I often look at the big picture while occasionally thinking about the finer points in life.
