This kitchen, although relatively new, was completely dysfunctional. With two islands, the homeowner had to spend extra time walking around in circles to get around the large space. The existing cabinets, a knotty alder, whitewashed to give a country feel, were failing miserably, looking and feeling wrong.

The new design created a totally functional kitchen space with one long island that fits the homeowner’s style. The new, carefully crafted lighting design fits within the existing tray ceiling. The team then replaced the hardwood floor with a unique random tile layout to tie the dining, kitchen and family room together. New custom cherry cabinets and a quartz countertop with a 3” mitered edge became the new focus of the room, incorporating existing appliances for cost savings.

Because the existing tray ceiling was wrapped with drywall, the team skipped the cost of adding box trim made of cherry wood. Instead, they stained the drywall to match the cabinet color and raked a woodgrain into the finish, fooling even the keenest eye. Updating the fireplace and mantel as part of the cabinetry plan pulls the whole room together.
