Fat slicks were covered in varying shapes and sizes as the rules changed

Here is a comparison of some of the flare shapes used in the original series, with help from vintage racer Alan Giles aka Drsideways.

There were many variations that showed up on street cars during and after the series.

For flares from the actual series, the Devendorf mold seems to have been discarded, the Sharp molds are a very outside possibility.

Finding a mold for the Sharp units will be tough. The Sharp flare go out and then down and over the tire edge. This lets you run the tire higher up in the flare and a lower ride height.

Devendorf flares used on the rear of the white Primadonna Z. Mike Oulette hand carried a spare set purchased from Devendorf on the plane back to northern California while building this car.

The most exotic set were on the Camel GT Pace Car built for R.J. Reynolds. There is a photo of that car in Mike Hollander’s book “The Complete Datsun Guide “ on pg.121. This was an IMSA pace car in the 1970’s. Then it went to Road Atlanta during the Whittington era as a school car. After a time languishing in the grass on flat tires it was purchased by Jerry Atkins. Jerry restored the bottom and the inside of the car while leaving the exterior in original shape. It was somewhat faded but the fiberglass work was in decent shape. After Jerry it was traded to Dr. Alan Robbins for Jim Fitzgerald’s 280ZX. I seem to remember it was car +$$. The Camel car now has BSR livery and the rear flares narrowed.
