SOLD/GT2 Datsun Z with Vintage potential

Survivor

This car was put together back in the late seventies. I loved the Datsun IMSA GTU race cars of the day, and thought, I want one for the street, so the process began.

The Car: 1971 Datsun 240Z, this car came out of Las Vegas Nevada and is pretty much rust free. It had, of course, some wrinkled body work, but I figured the body work I wanted to put on would remedy that.

The Bodywork: The flares and G nose came from Bob Sharp Racing through Tilton Engineering, and was the race bodywork of the day. It’s hand laid glass cloth, not chopper gun. The hood is a new factory replacement that I had louvered similar to what the Scarab Z cars had on them in the seventies.

The Wheels: BBS three piece race wheels purchased from Bob Sharp Racing and used on the race team cars. Did Paul Newman use these wheels? Probably. The wheel sizes are: Front 10x15, Rear 15x15. I do have inner rim halves to narrow the rear wheels down to 13.5 wide if you want to install street tires. The rim halves will be included.

The Tires: Avon Intermediate Rain Tires, sizes: Front 240/600R15, Rear 330/620R15. These are race tires with almost full tread left for use. I have street driven with these tires, but am a little afraid to go too far because of the damage possibility.

The Drive Train: Chevrolet 327 cu in 350 hp, estimated. TRW pistons, 11.5 to 1 compression ratio. Intake Manifold: Edelbrock Torker, Carburetor: Holley 600 Double Pumper. Ignition: Mallory Unilite with a Cross Fire distributor cap. Transmission: Muncie M21 four speed. Differential: Datsun R200.

The Engine Conversion: Scarab do it yourself kit. Included everything, motor mounts, bell housing, drive shaft, exhaust headers, mufflers, pipes clear to the rear, radiator. Options; fan shroud and fan, differential support.

Suspension: Mulholland shock inserts, 1” front sway bar, ¾” rear sway bar, Delrin bushings, eccentric adjusters. Lowering springs.

Interior: Brand new dash from Datsun at the time of the build, all new weather stripping, Corbeau GT8 race seats, five point harness drivers side, four point roll bar, and the obligatory seventies interior color scheme. Racemark (Mark Donahue) steering wheel.

The good points? Very solid car, the bodywork is already there, V8 conversion already done, wheels and tires, race seats, roll bar, sway bars.

The bad points? Suspension! For serious track days, or Auto Cross, at a minimum, stiffer springs.

Full out: coil over suspension with a brake package and you’re set. Also, the paint on the car looks good in pictures and from a short distance, but the acrylic lacquer paint is 33 years old and showing it’s age.

Just as a heads up, this car will not fit on a U Haul trailer, the rear is too wide to fit between the trailer fenders.

IMSA Flares, Gnose and Airdam, 3 Piece Spoiler and Whale Tail

http://www.zccjdm.com/catalog.php/azcarbum/dt73726/IMSA_RACING__BODY_KIT

INFO:

We've Identified that this kit is the earlier IMSA kit, and thus "wider" than others we've seen. Each rear fender extends out 7" from the O.E. edge of the fender- 14" total wider in the rear. Zwolf helped with this info, and were pretty sure that this kit is the one that Zwolf was born from!!

NEW MOLDS:

All molds have been cleaned up in design/shape, and re-coated with tooling gel. This allows us to now use Gel during layup, Something that has never been used on these before due to the molds were not setup for it. The gelcoat allow for a absolutely beautiful finished product, that allows for easier paint prep, and part curing.

Shipping of a complete fender kit is around $300 in the Cont. U.S. ( does not include Lower fairing or Gnose )

Gnose:

The Gnose is currently being redone as well. I'm focusing on the hoodline, and quality of fitment, which before was very poor to say the least. When completed ( hopefully in the next few months ), it will be without a doubt the easiest install, and best fitting Gnose offered anywhere.
