1986 race log book photos
Here is a picture of my 1973 Z from a 1986 log book.
I think it's pretty close to the configuration when it
was raced in 1978 in a couple of IMSA races. Here's
what I know of the car so far…
The car was purchased in 1978 by Ray Ramsey racing
from Lee Mueller - a local Southern California racer of
some repute (who has since passed away)! Lee had it
painted for Ramsey racing and delivered it to Lime
Rock for the IMSA race in May 1978. The color was
changed to Silver (the photo doesn't show the silver
very well) and the Anheuser Busch Natural Light script
and other graphics were added. It was car #3 at the
time. It was to be raced by James Brolin as part of a
2 car Anheuser Busch sponsorship for Ramsey racing....
Brolin drove the Natural Light car and Newman drove
the Budweiser Z.
The first race I know of for the car was Laguna Seca -
April 30, 1978. Lee Mueller raced the car as #71,
qualified 2nd behind Dennis Asse in a 911, but in
front of Posey, Leary and Devendorf.. It DNF'd when
Asse and Mueller crashed after 13 laps....
The car was then sold to Ramsey and raced by Brolin at
Lime Rock, qualified 9th and finished 13th (blown
engine) It was also raced in 1979 at Laguna Seca IMSA
GTU by Chuck Shannon but got a DNS.
I'm looking for help documenting the history of the
car, prior and after this timeframe!!!! Bob Clucas (current owner)
