King’s plaza was named after it’s original anchor store King’s. This plaza also had an IGA supermarket and a Cinema. King’s closed in 1982 and IGA followed in 1984. In 1985, the DeMoulas family, owners of the Market Basket chain, acquired the shopping center. Rumors of a new supermarket came but it never happened. Then, the company proposed to build a 67,000-square-foot K-mart store but the project was refused because it included filling in some wetlands.
Many retailers were named as possible future tenants, supermarkets, Marshalls, HomeGoods. In 1997, Office Max, Pep Boys and a Chili's restaurant were confirmed. Eventually, Chili's took over a former Red Lobster space elsewhere and Pep Boys changed their minds. In 2000, the long-vacant King's was demolished leaving Ace Hardware and the US Post Office standing (as shown in the header picture).
In 2004, finally, an official project was proposed and confirmed. Tjmaxx, Bed Bath & Beyond and a U.S. Cellular have opened in a freshly renovated plaza. A brand new Buffalo Wild Wings was built right by the property entrance.
