CROSS ROADS PLAZA

  • Address: 6 Merrill Street

  • City: Salisbury MA

  • Opening date: unknown

This plaza once was anchored by Mammoth Mart. Eventually the store became King's department store. King's closed in 1983 and became Mars Department store. Mars closed in 1989 and became Stuart's. Stuart's quite probably closed around 1992. in 1995, U-Haul moved into the biggest space at the plaza. The other main space may have been renovated or rebuilt. There is an entrance in front and on the side of that building.

The plaza is located in an ideal location, near the junction of I-495 and I-95, near Route 1 and the seacoast, but it is only yards away from Tax-Free New Hampshire making it a tough spot for retailers. The local shoppers certainly were attracted by the many stores in tax-free Seabrook nearby. It may be why the Cross Roads Plaza never landed large national retailers.
