Welcome to yWriter

What is yWriter?

First, it's a word processor which breaks your novel into chapters and scenes. It will not write your novel for you, suggest plot ideas or perform creative tasks of any kind. It does help you keep track of your work, leaving your mind free to create.

Second, yWriter is FREE to download and use on Windows and MacOS!  You can register your copy to support future development, but this is optional.

Download yWriter from the Spacejock Software yWriter page.

yWriter was written and designed by Simon Haynes in 2002, and he's been updating and supporting it ever since.

Apart from creating yWriter, Simon is also the author of close to thirty novels, as well as How to Write a Novel - the secrets of a full-time author.

Do any of these sound familiar?

• You want to write your first novel, but you don't know how to begin.

• You've started writing several novels, but you never finish them.

• You've written a novel or two, but you want to increase your output and publish more often.

If you answered yes to any of the above, this book might just be what you're looking for!

What are all the different yWriter sites?

The main website discusses yWriter features, allows you to download the program, and contains information about updates.

The yWriter group is a mailing list where you can ask questions, exchange tips and information on the program, search for answers and interact with fellow users and writers.

The yWriter Wiki (the site you're looking at now) was set up so that any user can contribute to documentation for the project. FAQs, Guides, assistance with updating or restoring from backups - eventually these pages will contain a rich source of information for all users.

If you're interested in contributing to the documentation project, please see the Contributors Page
