Resources:

Learning to Sail, Goodman & Brodie - Annapolis Sailing School - very basic and very much geared to big boat sailing.

Getting Started in Sailboat Racing, Cort & Stearns - Excellent introduction to everything you need to know about sail boats, tuning and approaching a race course within the rules.

Understanding the Racing Rules of Sailing 2017-2020 - Perry - "The Bible" for serious skippers. Contains complete Rules and excellent discussions of how each rule applies with great illustrations by Brad Dellenbaugh.

Both the latter two books are updated after each 4-year Rules revision and the current ones are good through 2020.

Basic Sailing Rules - A handy guide for beginner skippers!

Animated Rules of Sailing: An extremely useful web site illustrating in very simple terms the application of the rules of sailing by Dick Rose, a member of the US Sailing Rules Committee can be found on the "Useful Links " page of this web site.
