Welcome to the official site of the West Valley R/C Mariners

AHOY and welcome to the west valley's only sanctioned radio control model boat club, American Model Yachting Association (AMYA) Club # 207.  Our club has been active since 1995 with the purpose of promoting radio control model boating activities in and among the west side communities of the 'Valley of the Sun'.

We meet on the first Saturday of every month in Litchfield Park, AZ at east end of the lake just west of Staggs  Park
(GPS coordinates 33 deg 29 min 17.96 sec N, 112 deg 21 min 16.41 sec W).  We're usually there around 9:30 AM to hold a general business meeting at 10:00 AM and spend the rest of the morning sailing or running scale models.
Follow the link below for directions.

Team Relay Racing Trial
18 Skippers (6 Teams of 3) took part in our first team racing event Saturday, January 7th. Weather conditions were sunny and warm but winds were fickle and soft even by Arizona standards making things difficult especially for less experienced skippers. Four races (3 laps each) were completed but scoring was a bit iffy as my score sheet was obviously confusing to some. Best we can reconstruct, the winning team was Graham Johnson, George Kramer and Chuck Goerke who did not win a single race. 4 Different teams won so it would appear that the teams were quite evenly balanced.
Comments that I have received or heard since the event were mostly very positive with the most common comment being that there was more fun, friendly interaction between club members at that event than any other. Pat Barnes (and I suspect Barbara might feel the same way?) said that as a novice skipper she still felt somewhat intimidated and didn't like to feel she was letting down her team mates. Understandable, but we were hoping to minimize this to encourage novice skippers to take part and have fun.
Latest News: At the February Club Meeting skippers expressed interest in having another Team Relay Racing Event after a future Club meeting. Watch for announcements! We will try for a Fall date!

SeaWind Region 5 Championship  - 2012
The 2012 SeaWind Region 5 Championships  in Lewisville, TX March 30-April 1, 2012 were very successful. 20 Entries, 4 each from Arizona and Kansas and the  rest from Texas made for a fun competitive event and the weather conditions ranged from light winds to full knock down blasts, a great test of sailing!  Texans Mauricio Dantas and Eric Rosenbaum were 1st & 2nd 1 point apart. Mike was 3rd  5 points further back, Al 4th, Peter 7th and George 15th.

Animated Rules of Sailing: An extremely useful web site illustrating in very simple terms the application of the rules of sailing by Dick Rose, a member of the US Sailing Rules Committee can be found on the "Useful Links " page of this web site.

2012 President's Day Scale Meet
A very well attended Scale Meet was held in perfect weather and lots of spectators. See photo slide show on the  Scale Boating page.

Next Club Meeting: Saturday, June 2 2012, 10:00 am east end of Litchfield Park Lake followed by fun racing and scale boat running.
