Forty Days of Prayer
40 Days of Prayer
a prayer for each of the 40 days
The purpose of these pages is NOT to tell you what to pray but to inspire you with words of prayer that others have spoken and shared.
As you read these, we encourage you to write your own prayer in a journal or pray from your heart as these words inspire you.
As you pray, it is my hope that this prayer (that I adopted as a pre-teen as my own daily prayer), will help you to meditate on these beautiful prayer words. It is a prayer of David:
Psalm 19:14 David's Prayer Psalm 19:14
Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.

WHY PRAY?
Prayer is important!
The Apostle Paul exhorts everyone to devote themselves to prayer:
ᎢᏣᏓᏙᎵᏍᏗᏍᎬ ᎬᏩᎫᏗᏗᏎᏍᏗ!
i-tsa-da-do-li-s-di-s-gv gv-wa-gu-di-di-se-s-di
itsadadolisdisgv gvwagudidisesdi!
(Colossians 4:2)
and Paul also admonishes us all to to pray without ceasing:
ᏂᏥᏲᎯᏍᏗᏍᎬᎾ ᎢᏣᏓᏙᎵᏍᏗᏍᎨᏍᏗ!
Ni-tsi-yo-hi-s-di-s-gv-na i-tsa-da-do-li-s-di-s-ge-s-di!
nitsiyohisdisgvna itsadadolisdisgesdi!
(1 Thessalonians 5:17).
Many have expressed their desire to us to be able to pray while speaking in the Cherokee Language.
This 40 days of Prayer project started when we decided to supply 30 days of prayers for those who wish to do so.
To help with the goal, we have selected a few phrases that are based upon scriptures that are suitable for use in praying.
Only slight variations have been made in a small number of them so that the words are personalized for your use.
We have also included in the English translation the more literal and original meanings of the words rather than the meanings they have been assigned of late.
Some of the prayers have been expanded with traditional prayer phrases.
We selected a few to add that are included with the scripture in the hope that these will assist your prayers to become more meaningful to you.
To begin, we have begun with a prayer based on Psalm 23:3 and a request that Creator show us the path we are to follow.
We suggest you use it to begin all your prayers, or you can, if you wish, use it as a stand alone prayer all by itself.
Introduction to all your prayers:
a Meditation verse and a Prayer for Guidance:

Chief, My Creator, My Shepherd, I want to know where I am going. I know you will tell me. Hear me, Chief, the Omniscient One, the one who foresees.
Hear me, Holy Spirit. Hear me now, God the Holy Spirit. You promised to help your people. There is nothing you do not see.
