CADET SEAMAN APPRENTICE (C/SA)

(Advancement day is the third Wednesday of December)

  • Time 4 months in the unit
  • Pass a Knowledge Test
  • Grade: Minimum "C" average in NJROTC
  • Recommended by Platoon Commander

CADET SEAMAN (C/SN)

(Advancement is the third Wednesday in May)

  • Time: 5 months as a Seaman Apprentice
  • Grade: Minimum "C" average in NJROTC
  • Exam: Pass Seaman advancement exam
  • Pass a performance test
  • Participate in a minimum of one (1) community service activity within the last nine (9) months
  • Recommended by the Platoon Commander

CADET PETTY OFFICER THIRD CLASS (C/PO3)

(Advancement is the third Wednesday in January)

  • Time: 5 months as a Seaman
  • Grade: Minimum "C" average in NJROTC
  • Exam: Pass Petty Officer Third Class advancement exam
  • Pass a performance test
  • Participate in a minimum of one (1) community service activity within the last five (5) months
  • Recommended by the Platoon Commander.

CADET PETTY OFFICER SECOND CLASS (C/PO2)

(Advancement is the third Wednesday in October)

  • Time: 6 months as a Petty Officer Third Class
  • Grade: Minimum "C" average in NJROTC
  • Exam: Pass Petty Officer Second Class advancement exam
  • Pass a Performance Test
  • Participate in a minimum of one (1) community service activity within the last six (6) months
  • Recommended by the Platoon Commander.

CADET PETTY OFFICER FIRST CLASS (C/PO1)

(Advancement is the third Wednesday in March)

  • Time: 7 months as a Petty Officer Second Class
  • Grade: Minimum "C" average in NJROTC
  • Exam: Must pass the Petty Officer First Class advancement exam
  • Pass a Performance Test
  • Participate in a minimum of one (1) community service activity within the last six (7) months
  • Recommended by the Platoon Commander.

CADET CHIEF PETTY OFFICER (C/CPO) AND OFFICERS

Senior Leadership Ranks/Rates

Advancement to the rates of Chief Petty Officer, Senior Chief Petty Officer, Master Chief Petty Officer, and all commissioned officer ranks from Ensign to Commander are by selection only. These rates/ranks are commensurate to the established senior positions of leadership in the company. Selection to these rates/ranks are billet-driven and therefore, temporary. In the event that a cadet is relieved of his/her leadership position, the cadet shall be administratively reduced to his/her last rate and no higher than PO1. The instructors have absolute authority in the selection and administrative reduction processes. The criteria for selection to the senior leadership ranks and rates are as follows.

a. Must be a senior, junior or sophomore cadet

b. Successfully complete any one of the following leadership training

1. STERLING NJROTC Leadership Workshop

2. Area 4 Leadership Academy

3. Area 4 Sail Academy

c. Apply for a senior leadership position

d. Show sustained superior performance

e. Exhibit the ability to take on greater responsibility

f. Pass the physical fitness test with a minimum grade of Satisfactory
