Multiple Audio Configuration in GrandOrgue

This tutorial is written for Windows users, but the concepts and steps apply to MacOs and Linux.

Default Configuration

By default, GrandOrgue sets up your audio as a simple two channel stereo configuration.

Sound Card Drivers

To configure your system for multiple stereo channel output you need a sound card that has driver support for more than one pair of outputs. This depends on the driver, so on some devices you may find that WDM-KS supports more channels, and on other devices WASAPI supports more channels. My ASUS DX1 card has outputs for four stereo pairs (8 channels), but they are only supported using WDM-KS.

Configuration Steps

1. Configure your Audio Groups

    1. From the GrandOrgue Menu bar select Audio/Midi > Audio/Midi Settings

    2. Select the Audio Groups tab

    3. Rename the default group to Stereo Pair 1

    4. Add new groups for as many stereo pairs as you need

2. Configure your Audio Output

    1. Select the Audio Output tab

    2. Change the Device to a driver that supports multiple stereo channels

    3. Select the device and click Add to add Channel 3

    4. Add channels until all your device's audio channels are present

3. Assign Audio Groups to Channels

    1. Select Channel 3

    2. Click Add

    3. Select Stereo Pair 2 - left from the pop-up

    4. Click OK

    5. Select Channel 4

    6. Click Add

    7. Select Stereo Pair 2 - right from the pop-up

    8. Click OK

    9. Repeat this sequence until all of your channels are assigned to audio groups

4. Assign Ranks to Audio Groups

    1. Close the Audio/Midi configuration page

    2. From the GrandOrgue Menu bar select Audio/Midi > Organ Settings

    3. Select a Rank

    4. Click the Audio Group item in the Settings group and select the Stereo Pair audio group that this rank should play on

    1. Configure all the Ranks to the audio group they need to play from.

    2. Click OK

Your organ should now be playing using multiple stereo channels :)
