Jack-Rack Reverb and other Effects

General Reverb using Gverb and Jack Rack

Jack Rack provides many LADSPA effects that can be used to enhance your jOrgan sound. Here is a simple tutorial for adding a different reverb to a fluidsynth soundsource.

    1. Click on Menu -> Multimedia -> Multimedia -> Jack Rack

    2. In Jack Rack's menu bar click on Add > G > Gverb

    3. In the Gverb screen click on Enable

    4. Now click on File > Save As

    5. In the Save As dialogue screen enter the name gverb.rack

    6. Click on Save

    7. Now minimize Jack Rack and open Jack's Connections window (right-click on the qjackctl icon on the bottom task bar and select Connections or maximize Qjackctl and click on the Connections button)

    8. Disconnect the jOrgan fluidsynth output from the system input

    9. Connect the jOrgan fluidsynth output (on the left panel) to the jack rack input (on the right panel).

    10. Then connect the jack rack output (on the left panel) to the system input (on the right panel) [you can connect them by drag-and-dropping... click on the jOrgan fluidsynth item, keep holding the mouse button down, move the mouse curser over jack_rack and release the mouse button]

    11. Close the Connections window and maximise Jack Rack

    12. Play your jOrgan model and move the gverb sliders until you have a pleasant sounding reverb. Also see http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=GVerb for more information on gverb settings

    13. Re-open Jack's Connections screen and re-connect the jOrgan fluidsynth item directly to system (while leaving the connection to jack_rack active).

    14. Experiment with Gverb settings again for more advanced effects :-)

    15. Click on File > Save to save the changes

The next time you want to use this reverb effect you will just need to:

    1. In Jack Rack, click on File -> Open

    2. Select gverb.rack and click on 'Open'

    3. Then you will need to open Jack's Connections and re-connect the jOrgan fluidsynth item with Jack Rack and Jack Rack with System as before
