Champion Physicists

3 December, 2014

A team of three KDS Year 11 students - Gabriel Abrahams, Oren Bahari and Sasha Goldenberg - were crowned champions of the Victorian Young Physicists' tournament, which brought together students from across the State. Two of these students, Gabi and Sasha, have been involved with the Robert Feigin Science Program since 2011.

Each year this Physics tournament presents students with a number of unique problems to research (experimentally) and then present their results to an opposing team and in front of an expert judging panel.

This State competition is part of the International Young Physicists' Tournament which is recognised as one of the world's largest and most influential Physics competitions. It is increasingly but informally acknowledged by the media as the Physics World Cup, with teams having to defend their research data, in a similar manner that scientists would defend their research findings from the critiques of their peers.

The ability for students to immerse themselves more deeply is arguably attributable to the skills that they have gained through being involved in cutting edge real world problems, thanks in part to the Robert Feigin Science Program.

5th Schwartz Seminar for Leading Science Teachers

7-15 July, 2010

Thanks to assistance from the Trust, Milorad Cerovac, administrator of the Robert Feigin Science Program, joined 30 other participants from Australia, Brazil, Canada, Greece, Israel, Singapore, and the US at the Weizmann Institute in Israel. Each seminar participant was required to prepare and present a poster, and Mr. Cerovac featured the Robert Feigin Science Program as an innovation in Science. Participants showed particular interest in our Encounters with Science evenings, and the Robotics and Space Science programs.
