Alternative web-slideshow

Since ??? there seems to be a change to picasaweb that blocks this way of creating a slideshow.

So this page is obsolete :-(.

In Picasaweb there is an option to copy the code needed to include a slideshow of an album in your own website. You can find all info about it here:

This slideshow works great, but has some limitations or in some cases it's even impossible to use it:

  • Some people want to embed a slideshow in a non-google blog (like wordpress,...). In such an environment it is sometimes impossible to use the standard embedding option, because the flash plugin needed for the standard embed option can be blocked for security reasons.

  • The end user cannot choose the speed of the slideshow

  • It is impossible to let it loop endlessly

  • It doesn't start automatically... and opens a popup to the entire album if you let it start

  • The user always has a direct link back to the picasaweb page with all images

This alternative removes some of these limitations... but introduces some new ;-)... but everyone can choose what he/she likes best of course...

    • Advantages:

      • Works also in environments where flash is blocked

      • Person who is looking at the slideshow can choose the speed of changing

      • Endless loop of the images being shown (versus only one time every image)

      • Automatic start of the slideshow (versus in some cases you need to push the play button before it starts)

      • By adding some extra html code you can remove the toolbar below the images (and thus removing the direct link back to picasaweb as well), but than you lose some of the things above...

  • (Known) disadvantages

    • Not possible to choose the default speed (but user can change the speed)

    • Not possible to choose the background color of the slideshow

Depending on you needs/whishes you can one of the two following html codes to embed the slideshow:

  • Code for slideshow with toolbar (with play/pause button, choose speed, previous, next, ...): Here

  • Only show the images, no toolbar: Here
