After some doubt the Friends of Surrey Square Park have taken the plunge and gone for a full day of canvassing the park visitors and present what we do.
It is hoped that these initiatives may result in more local people appreciating the importance of maintaining the little green spaces we have.
We had a pavilon (of sort) courtesy of Julian and Daniel bought in the tea and biscuits. The day was fine and we set it all up and hope for the better.
As it all turned out it was a good day.
We had all sort of people stopping and enquiring, quite a few stopped for a tea and all seemed delighted to hear what we had to say and explain what was going on in the Park.
Especially heartening was that young people seemed quite keen in helping out.
We took the opportunity to do a little maintenance too.
Our little WildLife Area oak sapling after a late spring had a good summer season growth, but suddenly it started to be affected by something that has caused the leafage to etiolate and wither. We thought that maybe adding some organic fertilizer (a type of algal fertiliser that Daniel happened to have) could have helped in getting through the difficult period.
And so we did, with the help of a valiant youth, we endeavoured to what we could to help another youngling (tree).
All went better than we expected and we manage to see lots of familiar and unfamiliar faces till the very end of our presence.
