Julian was jubilant that after a protracted and at time taxing time dealing with Council and Charity officials for replacing some dead trees in the park, the thing actually happened!!
The money have been squeezed over from the Open Space Project and the actually delivering and planting has been done by the contractors " Street Tree Care ".
He wrote to the Friends of Surrey Square Park:
The trees are in at last - yeh!
Daniel and I met the guys from Street Tree Care and showed them the planting locations.
Both trees are caged and double staked for security.
See pictures attached:
Black Mulberry (Morus nigra)
View looking north - the tree is about 3-4 metres from the inclined footpath leading to the crater playground, and just across the road from Surrey Square Primary School (potential for some school activities decorating the Mulberry tree etc no doubt)
Black Walnut (Juglans nigra)
View looking south, towards Bagshot Street ('Green Finger') - the tree is situated about 4 metres away from the main southern entry point to the park - a lovely tall specimen.
I just caught the contractors planting them by chance.
And here they are:
The mulberry
and the walnut
