We had a Friends of Surrey Square Park Committee meeting on Saturday the 10.
It wasn't all that jazz mostly because it was called in order to approve formally a motion of the Green Links Initiative and the latest from the works that should result in the demolition and redevelopment of the Sedan Way part of the Aylesbury Estate.
Still we talked about the best strategy to foster the introduction, in time, of green links corridors from the Burgess Park to a number of pocket parks like our that are strewn all around it.
And above all of the fate, if possible to spare them, of some magnificent large trees, mostly elms, that are present in the redevelopment area (more importantly along Sedan Way, that the developers would be quite happy to obliterate.
We sort out all the main business and spoke of the forthcoming work in the park, eat a great deal and had some fun too. The stern looking Daniel in his role of Chair presided sternly (but nobody took notice)
Of some interest is that that was the last time we were able to use the Kinglake Tenants & Resident Association, our favourite haunt, because a couple of nights later, coming home from friends, I noticed that as part of the securing of the empty premises (they have been moving out tenants from some time during the so called Phase 7 of the regeneration programme) they happily boarded up the empty flat and the TA hall. No warning, no time to take out the furniture!!
