English9

English 9 is a survey course that all ninth grade students are required to take. This course will introduce students to various genres of literature from a variety of authors from many parts of the world. The main areas of study will be the short story, the novel, poetry, and drama. We will explore common themes in literature. We will learn literary terms and apply those terms to what is being read.

The writing aspect of this course will focus on the 6+1 Writing Traits, which is used school wide. We will continue to build upon the fundamentals of grammar, spelling, word usage, and vocabulary skills. The main focus of writing will be building skills necessary to write a variety of essays. We will continue in the development of a strong thesis, solid persuasive paragraphs, and concrete logical conclusions. Students will also strengthen editing and proofreading skills through Daily Oral Language and through peer editing and writer's workshops.
