AP Lit/Comp

Countdown to the AP Exam

Course Requirements

This rigorous course is designed to prepare hard-working, motivated students for the college setting. This course challenges students to analyze works of prose and poetry in both an oral and written manner. It is fast paced and there is a substantial requirement of outside work. Students who take this course may elect to take the AP examination in the spring.

Writing is also a necessary component to the course. We will work to master the writing process and fine tune editing skills. Students in this course will develop confidence in writing an analytic essay. Students will demonstrate proficiency in the 6+1 Writing Traits. Most formal assessments will be in the written format. Students will show evidence of the writing process as well as peer editing. Routine conferences with the teacher will help students in all stages of the writing process (brainstorming, outlining, and numerous rough drafts) to identify where the student meets, needs, and exceeds expectations for written work. This communication between the teacher and the student is expected before, during, and after the final paper has been submitted for grading. Essays may be written outside of class or in a timed in class setting. Both the reading and writing expectations are necessary to help attain skills required to be successful writers in a college setting.
