Broadcasts Message from Vatican to Marian Congress in this City

Vatican City June 19 1947 ( - AP-) Pope Pius in a radio address today asked his listeners to "open their eyes" and take cognizance of the fact that in today's problems "social justice" imposes itself

He addressed his remarks to the Marian Congress at Ottawa and spoke for eight minutes in French. Then he changed to English for his bilingual hearers in Canada.

His speech in French was largely one of religious encouragement.

In his address in French, the Pontiff implored Canadians to " guard jealously your magnificent traditions"

Then in English the pope said " You have opened a Congress which will be memorable". The Congress honours "her whom the King of Kings wishes to honour."

The pope devoted most of his speech in English to praises of the Virgin Mary, invoking her protection for the children of Canada so they might be "shielded from the perils of humanity."

"Go forward with determination." the Pontiff urged Canada's youth. " In the face of a vicious world, prove that a young heart can be chaste."

The pope said of the mother of Jesus that "no circumstances are hidden from her anxious care " adding that her "mother's heart filled with mercy is bleeding with her Divine Son." St. Mary he said is the "Mother of the world" through her Divine Son.

The pope concluded both addresses with the Apostolic Benediction.
