BENTO PRADO JR. PRIZE





The Bento Prado Jr. Prize is awarded occasionally by the International Herbert Marcuse Society for an outstanding work (e.g., book, article, essay)—recently published in Portuguese—that advances critical theory in the struggle for liberation.

RECIPIENTS:

2022: Paulo Eduardo Arantes (Professor Emeritus, Department of Philosophy, Faculty of Philosophy, Letters and Human Sciences, University of São Paulo (FFLCH USP), for his book, Formação e Desconstrução: uma visita ao museu da ideologia francesa [Bildung and Deconstruction: A Visit to the Museum of French Ideology], (São Paulo: Duas Cidades, Editora 34, 2021). The prize was awarded at the symposium—"Dialectics of Violence and Extimacies of Politics"—December 5-7, 2022, at Universidade Federal do ABC (UFABC), São Bernardo do Campo, São Paulo, BRASIL, on the occasion of the fiftieth (50th) anniversary of the publication of Herbert Marcuse's Counterrevolution and Revolt (1972),
