Blood donation - Sit back and relax during your donation.

1. Doners It is not painfull & is completely safe. Takes just 5 mins for donation & another 10 mins for post donation rest & refreshment . only 350 to 450 ml is taken & body replenished it within 24 Hrs.

2. Exceptions Any healthy person between 18 and 60 can donate if SHe is Not anemic./ on medication /lactating /mother pregnant/menstruating/ high-risk group /underwent Surgery during ‘last three months to 1 year’ (Depending upon type of surgery/ had Malaria during Last three months)

3. Expectations Doaners are expected not to be empty stomach and If in doubt, consult the Blood Bank doctor on duty.

4. Disposal donated blood is tested for HIV, Syphilis, Hepatitis, Malaria etc to be sure that it is safe for the recipient .

5. Blood group and type are identified.

6. Card Blood group card is mailed to the donor. ,

7. Cross matched with the patient's blood Donor's blood must match with that of the patient

You cannot get AIDS by donating blood

8. Blood Types are A, B, AB, O, RH positive and RH negative. A substance called 'Rhesus factor' (Rh factor) is present in blood. Blood with the Rh factor in it is termed as positive. So a donor of 'A' group with the Rh factor present is 'A+' while a person without the Rh factor is 'A neg.'. It is important that the Rh factor matches while giving blood to a patient. A, B & AB can sometimes have subgroup. O group may sometimes be of a rare type called Bombay Pheno -type. 95% is of India's population is Rh+. only about 5% is Rh negative.

9. Receipants victims of accidents, burns, requiring replacement, blood loss, shock , major surgery, New born babies with jaundice.
