1977 All Star Game

Margie Wright (St. Louis) and Pat Willis (Buffalo) were on the mound for the East as they combined their talents to stomp the West, 11-5 before a crowd of 2,469 in the second annual WPS All-Star game which was held in Buffalo, N.Y. in August.

Wright, pitching the first 5 innings, held the West scoreless as the big bats of the East connected for 16 hits to run the score to 10-0 after 6 innings.

Pat Guenzler (St. Louis), Kathy Stilwell (Connecticut) and Joyce Compton (Connecticut) promoted the damage from the plate; Compton hit a 2-run homer while Stilwell and Guenzler combined for 5 hits and 6 RBI’s.

Bonnie Johnson (San Jose) picked up the loss for the West. Vicki Schneider (Santa Ana) and Diane Kalliam (San Jose) led the hitting attack for the West who gathered 10 hits in all.

Guenzler was voted the game’s “Most Valuable Player.”
