Imam Bachtiar

Imam is a travelling father. He travels a lot, either within Indonesia or overseas, but he always keep in contact with his family. He has visited about 10 countries since 1992. Several of them are visited more than once (Australia, USA, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and Thailand).He is a lecturer on Marine Biology at the Education Faculty of Universitas Mataram (Lombok, Indonesia). He is also the director of the Center for Coastal and Marine Studies of the same university.

He was born in a remote village (Mojoanyar) within the County of Jombang (Province of Jawa Timur, Indonesia), in 1963. A famous Indonesian scholar Dr. Nurcholish Madjid was also born at the same village. He grew up and lived in Jombang (and Surabaya) for about 24 years before he moved out to Lombok Island, in 1987.

He obtained his first degree at IKIP Surabaya (Indonesia), and his master degree at the James Cook University of North Queensland (Australia). He got his PhD degree at the Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) Bogor, Indonesia.

He writes a number of papers and some books (https://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=id&as_sdt=0%2C5&q=imam+bachtiar&btnG=). Some of his papers are written in English and published internationally.

He loves travelling and meeting with new people. Swimming is his favourite sport, and scientific diving is his professional entertainment. He enjoys his job very much. Since 2016, he is chairing provincial Indonesian Sub-Aquatic Sport Association (POSSI) of NTB.
