Barry Fasman - Music Producer Songwriter
Barry Fasman was born on October 9th 1946 in Chicago, Illinois as Barry Alan Fasman. His nickname is Foz and he is a musician, music producer, arranger, conductor and songwriter.
Barry attended the University of Illinois and in 1966 while at University he became the founder and keyboardist in a band called the One-Eyed Jacks, who opened shows for The Doors and The Jefferson Airplane.
By 1971 he was producing records for Wooden Nickel Records.
In 1981 Barry started working on Fame as part of the Entertainments Company who provided the music and he produced 95% of the songs in the first 3 seasons.
He also became the Producer all the Kids from Fame albums, selling over 4 million copies and in 1982 he received the British Record Producer of the Year Award.
As a songwriter he wrote or co-wrote on 32 songs and instrumental pieces from the TV Series and was conductor for the 1982 and 1983 Kids from fame concerts around the World.
He was also musical director on the Debbie Allen TV Special in 1989.
Barry’s other production and writing credits include Johnny Mathis, the theme song for "It's Showtime at the Apollo", Top 10 hits "Don't Cry Out Loud" by Melissa Manchester, "It's My Turn" by Diana Ross and Air Supply's "Every Woman in the World". He also produced the first album of musician and author Dan Brown.
An industry legend for decades, Barry has arranged and conducted the recordings of Barry Manilow, Billy Joel, George Benson, Dionne Warwick, and Placido Domingo to name just a few.
Barry also produced and/or composed songs for the motion pictures Dance With Me (Vanessa Williams-1998), I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997 blockbuster), and Oliver Stone’s JFK, Nixon, and Heaven And Earth. He has conducted live for Michael Bolton, James Ingram, Linda Ronstadt, Jeffery Osborne, Natalie Cole, Brian Wilson, and Jose Feliciano.
Barry’s video game soundtracks include “Robotech”, "Dynotopia”, “StarTrek: Shattered Universe”, “Corvette 50th Anniversary”, “Spongebob Squarepants” and “Spy vs. Spy”.
Barry is the owner and sound engineer of SANCTUARY SOUND, a fully-automated multi-track digital recording facility in Los Angeles, featuring digital and old-school gear.
Most recently Barry composed the music to a new musical, "Starring Clara Bow", which he co-wrote with long time writing partner/lyricist/librettist Jeffery Mundy.
