Writing for publication

Introduction

Academic researchers are judged on their publications record. Developing an academic writing voice is a key requirement for researchers.

Research students need to develop the ability to write and publish their research through journal articles/papers, book chapters and whole books, promoting their work and building an academic reputation. Increasingly, this goes beyond standard academic publications and includes digital outputs such as blogs and relevant social media.

This interactive workshop will offer an opportunity to reflect on what constitutes a good consider writing style and the (varying) structures that underpin effective writing for both academic publications and informal digital platforms. There will be discussion of helpful habits of writing and suggestions for ways to deal with inevitable ‘blocks’.
