Treasurer's Report - Feb 20 2010

$ 4,476.29 = Balance (12/31/09)

$ 1,680.62 = Income (1/1/10 through 2/19/10)

$ 5,704.66 = Balance (2/19/09), presuming that all checks have been cleared

Under old business, we had tabled discussion about donating money to the Department to help offset costs towards the Eagle Scout certificate. We revisited this issue and got a clearer understanding with the help of PCC John Makos. Brother John is the Department Eagle Scout coordinator. The Camp voted to drop this issue.

Under new business we initiated a former Junior member as a new Brother. Charles “Chuckie” Mossbrucker was brought in as a full member. Welcome to our Camp!

Commander Mossbrucker has formed a committee to serve as a liaison to a County Committee to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the 44th National GAR Encampment. He is looking for volunteers and if interested please contact him.

PCC John Makos has been nominated for Department Commander. The Camp is asking that we have a good turnout at the Department Encampment to show our support.

The SVR is the uniformed branch of the SUVCW. Our SVR unit is Company A, 7th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry. Colonel Francine served as Captain of this company and we wanted to portray this unit to reflect Francine’s first command. The SVR participates in Memorial Day ceremonies, parades, living history programs and the annual Remembrance Day Parade in Gettysburg. This is not a reenacting unit. Dues are $2.00 per year. To be a member of the SVR, you must be a member of the SUVCW. Please note that you will need a uniform, hat, and a waist belt. We can provide a list of sutlers that can provide these items. A SVR membership medal is available for $12.50. At the present time we have 11 Brothers in the SVR unit. If interested please let me know.

Our next meeting will be a “Grand Review” on May 15th, at the Atlantic County Library West, in Hammonton. Set up time is 9:00 AM. For our new members a ‘Grand Review” is where we set up an artifact display at the Library to be viewed by the public. If any Brother wishes to display any relics please let me know.

Our annual Bus trip will be to the Antietam Battlefield this year. Brother Steve Wright will lead the tour again this year and I know that we will be treated to one great tour. The date is Saturday April, 10th. The pickup sites will be the usual, 6:30 AM at Saint Martin’s Roman Catholic Church in Hammonton, and 7:00 AM at the ACME in Clayton. The price is $60.00 per person and includes dinner. Brothers, we need to fill the bus. We have only 7 signed up so far and we will open this up to the general public to fill the bus. Please don’t miss out on this fantastic trip. For more information please contact Commander Fred.

The Camp approved the following expenditures:

A donation of $100.00 to CWPT to help with the purchase of the Snyder Farm at Gettysburg.

$53.00 for the purchase of 10 large print Ritual and Ceremonies books from National. These will be for Camp use.

$44.00 for the purchase of a roll of “forever” postage stamps to be used by Camp officers.

The Camp is accepting donations towards the luminaries for Remembrance Day. Last year Brothers from the Camp sponsored 34 luminaries. This is to honor members of the 7th who are buried in the National Cemetery at Gettysburg. If you wish to sponsor one of the luminaries the cost is $18.63 and you can make your check payable to Francine Camp # 7, and mail it to our treasurer. If there is a certain soldier you wish to honor please let us know.

While we are on the subject of Remembrance Day the Camp is looking into the possibility of posting an honor guard at the New Jersey section of the National Cemetery during the luminaries. This would be our members of the SVR who would do this. We are requesting if you wish to part of this that you have a Frock coat. The Camp will also have flags to give out to Camp members at Remembrance Day to place on a monument. The idea is to place flags on monuments that may not have one. Commander Mossbrucker plans to make up “armbands” with the names if members of the 7th KIA at Gettysburg that we will wear during the parade. We will discuss this further as we get closer.

The Camp has voted to contact more High School ROTC and JROTC to see about their programs. As you know the Camps usually awards three medals per year. We would like to expand this.

SVC Kenny is looking into new Camp shirts. He is looking into both new tee shirts and Polo shirts. We will forward the information when it becomes available.

The Camp would like to make the membership aware of the following events.

Saturday, May 8th. Honor ceremony and parade at Finns Point National Cemetery, Salem County. We will meet in the Fort Mott parking lot at 10:00 AM.

Saturday, May 15th. Grand Review Atlantic County Library West Hammonton. Set up time 9:00 AM.

Sunday May 30th. Traditional Memorial and GAR services at Greenmount Cemetery. Time 6:00 PM

Monday, May 31st. We have two Memorial Day parades. Commander Mossbrucker will handle the one in Glassboro. I will handle the one in Hammonton. Time is 10:00 AM on both. If you can attend either event please let either Fred or me know.

Just a reminder, dues are now due for the year 2010. Dues are $30.00 Please send your check made payable to Francine Camp # 7 and mail it to:

As some of you might know Joe, Josh, Noah, and Donna Trepiccione, have moved out to New Mexico. Joe was offered a great job opportunity with his company. It was great having them with us at our meetings and with us this past Remembrance Day. On behalf of the Camp we wish them all the best of luck and you all will be missed.

Report of the Patriotic Instructor. Brother Wayne talked about the Camp having a better turnout for Memorial Day Services at both Greenmount Cemetery in Hammonton, and at Finns Point National Cemetery in Salem. While there are 2,436 Confederate Soldiers buried at Finns Point, we must remember that there are 136 Union Soldiers that died serving as prison guards there as well. The Camp will give plenty of notice in advance of these events.

Dear Brothers,

A productive meeting was held on Saturday November 6, at the Atlantic County with 11 Brothers and 3 guests present. A number of items were brought up for discussion for the Camp’s consideration.

Under old business, we discussed the bus trip to Antietam battlefield. The trip is slated for April 9, 2011. Cost is $60.00 per seat. We will spend the morning on the battlefield in a walking tour and follow it up with a driving tour of the battlefield in the afternoon. As always dinner will be included at we will head back to the Golden Corral. The Camp is working on ideas for lunch as there are not too many places to eat in Sharpsburg, and we are looking into having hoagies made and we can have a picnic lunch. We are looking at having only one central pickup spot in Williamstown, for the bus this year, verses the two we have had over the past couple of years. We will have more information at the Camp meeting in January.

The Camp was informed that National has raised per capita tax by $5.00. This will not affect our Camp as we will be able to absorb the increase.

There are tentative plans for a Francine/Thorn Dinner on Saturday February 12th, at the Mays Landing Country Club. This would coincide with “wrap up” meeting of Atlantic City GAR Commemorative Committee which a few of us from the Francine Camp was on. The cost should be about $25.00 per person. We should have details shortly about this.

Good of the order.
