Francine Camp Meeting Minutes

April 13, 2013

Dear Brothers,

A productive meeting was held on Saturday April 13, 2013, with 12 Brothers present and one guest present. A number of items were brought up for discussion for the Camp’s consideration.

Minutes approved.

Treasurer's Report: - $3,840.76

Old business: Application accepted for Blair Thron. Brother Blair was brought into membership.

Mays Landing Civil War Monument: We will start meetings in July with the County.

Bills submitted: $46.65

Nothing new with Hamilton Mall and Smithville as far as holding a possible recruiting event.

The Camp is looking into getting more Camp Tee shirts. Commander Kenny is looking into this.

Junior members already pay an application fee. The Department will bring up our resolution and pass it on to National.

We are looking into the possibility of setting up at the AC Air show: We have heard nothing back as of this date.

May 25 we have a Memorial service for Pvt. Henry Applegate, the ancestor of Brother Thomas Applegate. We need a maximum effort for this event!

We have a few Brothers that are trying to find Civil War ancestors. Brother Blair Thron and Brother Lader have offered their help in trying to help find ancestors.

Francine/Thorn Luncheon. We will hold this in August as it will give us more time to plan.

New Business:

Department Encampment on June 8. If you wish to go please let me know as you will need credentials. Let’s have a good turnout from the Camp.

The SUVCW/GAR month will not happen as of yet. We are still working on this.

John Wilkes Booth Tour: We are going to look into a van or bus that we could take on this tour. We can look at doing this maybe in the fall or early spring.

July 4th parade in Wenonah. If you could march and help out Brother Lader, please let him know.

Long term projects: Look into a way of honoring Colonel Francine by having something named for him such as a road or a park.

It was brought to the Camp’s attention that Bruce Springteen had a Civil War ancestor. It was suggested that it would be unique to have a big celebrity as a member of the Camp.

Good of the Order Paul Lader brought in a beautiful display with part of the fragment of the 2nd North Carolina Flag captured by the 7th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry at Chancellorsville.

ROTC Awards: We need to purchase 4 medals. They are $5.00 per medal. This is approved.

Our own Camp Brother Joe McDevitt is running for re-election for Atlantic County Freeholder. If you can please give Brother Joe your support.

Brother Dave Hann was honored for his work at the Remembrance Day Ball by the SVR.

Saturday May 11: Confederate Memorial Day Finns Point National Cemetery. We will meet in the Fort Mott parking lot at 10:00 AM.

Saturday May 25: Pvt Henry M. Applegate graveside ceremony at 2:00 PM at Wrightstown Methodist Church-Cemetery is 34 West Main Street, Wrightstown, NJ 08562

Monday, May 27: Memorial Day Parade Hammonton

Thursday, May 30: Traditional Memorial Day Service Greenmount Cemetery 6:00 PM

Saturday, June 1: Living History Pennsville Farm Day at the Pennsville Historical Society 11-2

Saturday, June 1: Living History Mullica Township Recreational Park on Elwood Rd. THIS IS NOT MULLICA HILL. Mullica Township is right next to Hammonton. The event will start at 10 AM with a program starting at noon.

Saturday, June 8: New Jersey Department SUVCW Encampment. Peddie School, Hightstown. We will look into getting together to car pool to the Encampment.

Saturday, June 29: Pennsylvania Department SUVCW Encampment. There will be a rededication of the Peace Light Memorial in Gettysburg PA

Saturday, July 27: Grand Review and meeting Hammonton Library 10:00 – 4:00 We will set up at 9:00 AM

Sunday, October 20: Batsto Country Living Fair, Historic Batsto Village 10:00-4:00. Set up time 9:00 AM

Saturday, November 2:Camp Meeting at 10:00 AM, at the Atlantic County Library West, located at 451 South Egg Harbor Road in Hammonton. The library is right next to St. Martin's Roman Catholic Church. We will meet in the all purpose room.

Saturday, November 23: Remembrance Day Parade Gettysburg PA

With no other business the meeting was adjourned at 11:50.

Dear Brothers,

A productive meeting was held on Saturday November 2, 2013 with 14 Brothers present and five guests present. A number of items were brought up for discussion for the Camp’s consideration.

Minutes approved.

Treasurer's Report: - $2,329.56

Brothers in distress Jimmy Williams is in the Pittman Manor home, and Jack Kuepfer is in a nursing home. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Congratulations to Commander Shawn Kenny and wife Connie on the birth of their daughter Emma.

Condolences to Brother Alex Calabrese on the passing of his Mother-in-law.

Moment of Silence for PC-in-C Dave Medert

Discussion was held about the Booth escape tour.

Unfinished business:

Luminaries purchased by Brothers. We had a total of 10 purchased by the Camp. A reminder to those Brothers who plan to stand guard in the National Cemetery, to be at the National Cemetery, Baltimore Pike side no later than 5:00 PM.

Francine/Thorn luncheon December 15th 2:00 PM Mays Landing Country Club.

Naming a street in honor of Colonel Francine. We will start the process of looking into this.

New Business.

Motion made by Brother Alex C to create a benevolent fund to help paying dues for Brothers in distress, and active military, limited to the money in the Camp savings account. Brothers can voluntary make donations. Disbursement from the fund will be made by majority vote of the membership at the Camp meeting. Seconded by Brother Frank Tomasello

Good of the order:

Gloucester County Historical Society Museum: 58 N. Broad St., Woodbury, has a Civil War exhibit. It is until February 2014 and is well worth it.

Remembrance Day in Gettysburg is November 23. I will be sending out an e-mail shortly with all of the information.

Motion to close meeting was adjourned at 11:45 with the next meeting slated for Saturday February 15, 2014 at the Atlantic County Library West in Hammonton.

Francine Camp Meeting Minutes

February 9, 2013

Dear Brothers,

A productive meeting was held on Saturday February 9, 2013, with 14 Brothers present and two guests present. A number of items were brought up for discussion for the Camp’s consideration.

Minutes approved.

Treasurer's Report: Our bank account has been changed from Bank of America to ABCO Credit Union. - $2,907.76

Brothers in distress: Brother Jimmy Williams in battling the flu. We all hope that he will be feeling better.

Received application from Blair Thron. His ancestor was in was in the 18th PA Cavalry. We will vote on his application at the next meeting.

Communications: Reported on the date change for Remembrance Day. The new date in November 23, 2013.

Old Business:

An event at Historic Smithville: We still need to hear back from them

The event at Shore Mall is out. It is being torn down.

Tee shirts: We need to have screens made. We still have many shirts left.

Hot Rod show: We need to table that until next year. We will look into a car show at for next year.

Wooden nickels are in. We have 500 of them.

Fees for Junior members. We will table this until National changes the age.

Memorial service for the ancestor of Brother Thomas Applegate. This will be on Saturday May 25, at 2:00 PM at Wrightstown Methodist Church, 34 West Main Street, Wrightstown, NJ.

We are good to go with our new SVR unit. Our new unit is now 7th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry SVR. This is our new unit designation.

Brother Larry McDermott brought up about the Booth escape tour. This is something that the Camp might be interested in. This might be a good trip for the Fall. We will look into this. We have to meet at Ford’s Theater.

New Business:

Possible living history in Mullica Township. Brother Roger Muessig will give us a date and time

We are still working on erecting a monument in Mays Landing to honor residents from Atlantic County that served in the Civil War. The Civil War Monument Committee will consist of Brothers Sam Squire, Ryan McLeod, and Dave Hann

The dedication of an official GAR/ SUVCW month. Brother Fred Mossbrucker will get more information as he is waiting to hear back from our politicians
