"I'm Done"

My son has been kind of a grouch lately. I think it's because Missus Raroo has been out of town all weekend and he misses her. His sour mood spilled over into our day at Disneyland. It was a day full of "I don't want ____." No matter what was on the agenda, he wanted nothing to do with it.

That's not to say we didn't have a good time! We had a blast enjoying some of our favorite attractions, such as the Enchanted Tiki Room, Jungle Cruise, and Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters. And it was a mercifully light day in terms of attendance, meaning lines were short and navigating masses of bodies wasn't an issue.

Despite the ideal day for getting the most bang for our buck, my son decided after less than five hours that he had seen enough. "I'm done." I couldn't believe it. "I want to go home."

I gave him a couple chances on the way out, asking if he was totally sure he was ready to leave. "Yes, I'm done. I want to go home." Oh well. When you're a parent, sometimes you have to sacrifice good opportunities because they don't match up to what your kids need.

And, in my son's case, apparently what he needed was a good nap. He slept the entire drive back home and over an hour after I carried him into our home and plopped him down on the couch. He woke up in good spirits and asked about Mommy, who should be home before bedtime. I think to my son our home is more of a Magic Kingdom than Disneyland... and I think he's probably right. But, man... those lines! So short! Oh well.
