Challenges in Bike and Ped Traffic Monitoring
7/25/2017
Nonmotorized traffic monitoring has grown rapidly over the past decade. Spurred by local demand for information to guide and evaluate improvements in bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, local, regional and state agencies have initiated monitoring programs, the federal government has conducted research and published technical guidelines, and more vendors are marketing monitoring equipment. New questions are emerging as engineers and planners wrestle with the challenges of implementing and sustaining programs required to produce high quality data. Whether you’re contemplating a new program or wrestling with the challenges of bringing a program to scale, you’ve likely wondered how others have managed the problems you’re encountering.
This interactive webinar has three objectives:
to share solutions to challenges faced by bicycle and pedestrian data “wranglers;”
to identify needs for more focused webinars on bicycle and pedestrian traffic monitoring; and
to build the community of practitioners and researchers who are advancing the field.
Facilitators:
Greg Lindsey, Professor, University of Minnesota, Humphrey School of Public Affairs.
Scott Brady, Office of Travel Monitoring Manager, Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission
Sarah O’Brien, Bicycle and Pedestrian Program Manager, Institute for Transportation Research and Education
