Collecting Bicycle and Pedestrian Data with Video

4/24/2018

Join a conversation with colleagues about issues involved when using video-based data collection tools for bicycle and pedestrian counts. Objectives of this discussion-centric conversation are:

To introduce methods and issues involved when collecting bike/ped data with video;

To provide an overview of one effort underway at a university; and

To build the community of practitioners and researchers who are advancing the non-motorized traffic monitoring field.

The majority of the time will be an opportunity for participants to ask questions and to discuss their experiences with video-based data collection. The Subcommittee particularly encourages participation from people with experience evaluating the quality of video data that was automatically processed. (The focus will be on issues common to video-based counting and not on specific vendors or camera devices.) Members of the Bike and Ped Data Subcommittee will facilitate the conversation. Participants will include:

Host: Nathan Hicks, Transportation Planner (CDM Smith)

Speaker: Bernardo Pires, Project Scientist (Robotics Institute - Carnegie Mellon University)

Speaker: Dr. Tarek Sayed, Director (UBC Bureau of Intelligent Transportation Systems and Freight Security)
