Level1B Construction Notes

The PCB is double sided with the copyright text on the bottom side - see the photos below.

Upper side of PCB

Lower side of PCB

All through hole components sit on the upper side of the PCB and only the surface mount decoupling capacitors are mounted on the lower side.

The arrangement of all components is shown below (click to enlarge):

Component Layout

A complete list of parts is included in the attached spreadsheet. We sourced our parts from a number of different suppliers and pricing in the spreadsheet is indicative only - some parts were delivered from the US with the usual variable import tax depending on the size of the package.

The parts list includes all components although to create a basic Level 1B machine many of these are marked as optional. There's no need to provide the I2C device socket and resistors for example, or the 20W header if the board will only be used as an alternative CPU with high speed memory for the host computer.

Pin 1 of IC3 (the Xilinx PLCC device) should be in the top edge of the square socket in the component layout. If your socket has a bezel on one corner, that edge should be the top left hand corner.

Note that both the power connector and the JTAG header connector have the same pin out as the MCUMall breakout board, so the same programming cable can be used to program the CPLD part in-situ in this board.
