Fall 2015

1818 SW Florida Chapter Lunch: November 7, 2015

A very lively group met in Shiva’s club house restaurant for lunch. There was so much to catch up on, we almost stayed till dinner. The occasion was particularly special as Shiva had just retired from his 8 year presidency of 1818. But every cloud has a silver lining – and Shiva will now be spending much of his time in our area. Although, judging by the multitude of ideas and concepts Shiva put forth – we may need to go elsewhere to relax! But do stay tuned – we are seriously looking into making connections with the FGCU, which is proving to be an extremely dynamic young university.

So, thank you to all those who joined us, especially those who drove from afar. And, to those who could not make it – you were missed and we hope those undergoing surgery are recovering well.

We presented Charu and Shiva with a membership in the Florida Humanities Council (www.floridahumanities.org) and a copy of the magnificent book the ‘Everglades: America’s Wetland’, by Mac Stone (turns out that the Everglades are Charu’s favorite place in Florida, and as Shiva said, now she won’t even have to drive there!) and to keep Shiva occupied , a CD from the State of Florida Government with 1700 pages of Florida’s history, economy, geography, laws etc. Lester Dally (below) had some kind words for Shiva and Charu and poignant memories of the era – including that Shiva was formerly a marathon runner.

Moving forward, we discussed meeting again for lunch in February and also will consider a day cruise from Fort Myers to Cabbage Key (famous for Jimmy Buffet’s Cheeseburger in Paradise) with lunch on the island. Please – also consider to join us on the Space Coast for the 2016 Chapter Reunion (March 14-17, 2016) – there are more details on the Chapter website and in the September and (forthcoming) December 1818 Bulletin.

If any of you have suggestions for future activities, would like to organize a lunch or an event in your area, please email me and I will post on our web or email to the group.

As always, we very much look forward to welcoming all new 1818 Florida residents and any 1818 members who may be visiting Florida.

With best wishes for the New Year to you and your families.
