Section One: Writing Assignments

There is normally a 6,000 word assignment associated with each module. This may be, for example, an essay exploring a particular issue, with reference to the existing literature, a report of a small-scale investigation, a report on the development of teaching materials or a portfolio. There may be other types of assignment in addition to these. Suggested assignment topics are given with each module and it may be possible to negotiate other topics to meet your particular interests.

In writing your assignments you will, of course, draw on relevant units from the modules, but we also expect you to make maximum use of all available materials including:

  • readings provided for units
  • materials from the core texts and other books you purchase
  • photocopies of material you find yourself if you have access to a library
  • borrowed books if you have good access to a library
  • electronic journals
  • e-books
  • relevant reports, or other official documents, newspaper articles and websites
