About Me

My name is Amy Baniewicz and I've been teaching at the School of St. Mary's for the past four years. Before that, I worked at Haven Middle School and Martin Luther King Jr. Literary and Fine Arts School, both in Evanston. I earned my two bachelors degrees in history, specializing in European history, and education, specializing in math, at Northwestern University.

My Catholic faith is very important to me. I started teaching religious education while still in high school and have continued to do so ever since. I've taught all levels of junior high religious education as well as fourth grade, but Confirmation prep is my favorite.

Fun facts:

  • I absolutely love to cook and bake! Cookies are my favorite things to make (and eat), but I also enjoy baking bread.

  • I studied abroad in London as part of my history degree and was able to visit the Vatican and attend a service with Pope Francis while travelling in Europe.

  • I enjoy crafting and make most of the decorations I use in my classroom. Please excuse any glitter or glue you find while visiting.

  • Service learning is also very important to me. I think it's a great way to learn more about yourself, another culture, and your faith. My favorites were to a wolf sanctuary in Colorado and to a sea turtle refuge in Costa Rica. The environment is one cause about which I'm particularly passionate.

  • I speak French, play the piano and clarinet, and run 5ks in my spare time. I also enjoy reading and have a large collection of books. Hockey and football are my favorite sports.
