Week 3 - Journal
Ideation
Tell us about your assignment's idea for this week. Why do you care about this idea? What inspired you? (Please include images or links to sources of inspiration)
I searched YouTube for videos of making a pen holder using Fusion 360 and I chose one of the shapes that I liked, which is inspired by a beehive and in the shape of a repeating hexagon.. This is the video link
Tool Chain
Which software/machines/materials did you use in the assignment? Why?
fusion 360 program for design
PRUSA i3 MK2 3D printer
cura (software for 3d printer)
pla filament material for 3d printer
Design/Preparation Process
Explain the design and/or preparation process of your assignment. How did you use the tool or software to design and/or prepare your assignment before fabrication/implementation?
I drew a cylindrical shape with a height of 7cm and a diameter of 4cm
Then I smoothed the bottom edges by fillet
The work of the inner void by shell
Then I drew a rectangle touching the upper circumference of the cylinder (2mm*3mm)
Then I did sweep and chose the profile and path
I smoothed out the outer edge I added by fillet
This is the shape of the cylinder before adding the duplicate shape to it
I drew a center line to make sure the pattern was drawn correctly
I draw a first hexagon
I drew a second hexagon to form the repeating shape to make the pattern
And I made an extrusion to etch the two shapes on the body of the cylinder
I created a rectangular pattern
I repeat the shape longitudinally
Then I chose the circular pattern
Then I determined the number and the distance to repeat the shape circularly on the surface of the cylinder
This is its final form
Finally, I put the material on it, which is black plastic
I saved the file in (stl format) and inserted it into cura to adjust the time
Then I saved it as (gcode)
Development/Implementation Process
Explain the development/implementation process of your assignment. How did you use the machine/tool to manufacture or implement the design of your assignment?
- After confirming the file, I copied the gcode file to the SD card of the printer.
-then i chose my file
-i pressed start
-The machine started heating up to reach the required temperature of 215.
-The machine started printing and made sure when it was finished with the first layer that everything was good
print settings:
-Material: Black PLA - Profile: 0.3 mm
-Infill: 10% - Support Placement: none
-Time: 88 min. - Grams: 14gm

Overcoming Challenges
What kinds of challenges or problems did you face while doing the assignment, tutorials, or exercises? How did you solve them? Did you ask for help from an instructor or peer? Please provide a link to the tutorial or article that you used to solve your problem (if any)
I faced a problem at the beginning of my fabrication of the task because when designing I made the thickness of the holder 0.5 mm to reduce the working time, which led to the collapse of the holder
And to solve the problem, I modified the design to make the thickness 4 mm and then it became great
Final Project
How can you use the skills and knowledge that you've acquired this week in your final project?
During this week, I can design 2.5D models on fusion 360 and print it on a 3D printer, which helps me to produce my final project in the best way
WOW!
What is the coolest thing that you've learned this week? What is something that you will never forget from this week?
I learned how to change the color of the pla filament from the fab lap specialist Rowa and adjust the temperature of the machin
and It is great and fun for me to watch the movement of the machine to make a product of my own production
Weekly Digest [OPTIONAL]
Tell us about any other cool things that you've made this week: in the Hands-on activity, tutorial examples, exercises, or any other cool mini-project that you tried out aside from the assignment.
I made a pen holder with shapes inspired by the shape of a beehive as a assignment, but I encountered a problem at the time, as the printing time became 4 hours, and this does not comply with the conditions of the assignment
