Valeria will be sharing about her role as a researcher for Mayo Clinic in working with imaging from radiology and intergrating it with artificial intellegence. Her research is both labratory and computer based.

Joey is a 2016 graduate from Red Wing High School. He went on to receive his Associates Degree in Automation and Robotics from Madison Area Technical College. He will be sharing about his current role in both managing sales as well as troubleshooting problems in the industrial automation industry.

Tylar will speak about engineering in general, not just what he does but the entire field. He plans to give students a sense that there are many opportunities and varieties within just engineering.

Sonia Smith J.D. - Director of Compliance and Assistance at Minnesota Department of Education

Sonia Smith has a Master's of Science in Professional Counseling and a Doctorate in Law. She recently worked for the Goodhue County Education District as the Director of Special Education before being offered a new position with the Department of Education. She will be sharing about her roles and information for students interested in similar careers.


Sonia will be hosting an additional Q&A session talking about her experiences as a minority in her fields of pursuit. This session is open to all students. Ana Maria will be sharing about her current role with Global Fund. She is native bilingual in Spanish and English and also has professional working proficiency in German and French. She will host two sessions on April 28th with the first in English and the second immediately following in Spanish.

Dan will provide general background information on working for local governments in the public sector. He will then get more specific on working for cities in the area of planning, zoning, economic development and building inspections. Dan will identify tasks and accomplishments that he sees when working in the field of community development that make this a positive work experience. Skills for this type of job will be included with an outlook on what the future may look like in this field.

Dr. Nicole Neeser DVM MPH - Director, Dairy and Meat Inspection Division - Minnesota Department of Agriculture

Dr. Neeser is a public health veterinarian who works in a wide variety of areas at MDA, including working with dairy farmers and processors, and meat, poultry and egg processors in preventing foodborne disease on farms and in our food production systems. Her work involves oversight of regulatory inspections, sampling for Salmonella and E. coli in food, responding to animal and human disease emergencies and investigation of food borne disease outbreaks in dairy, meat, eggs, and other products. We’ll discuss the different kinds of work done at the Department of Agriculture and the many ways professionals can contribute to agriculture, and animal and human health.

TJ Helmus - Physical Therapist - Mayo Clinic

TJ is a local physical therapist for the Red Wing Mayo Clinic. He will be sharing about his duties and specialty interests that include orthopedics, sports injuries, pool therapy, and spinal manipulation in addition to his recommendations for students planning on pursuing this field in the future.

Dr. Meredith Palmer - Wildlife Biologist and Conservationist - Postdoctoral Fellow for the National Science Foundation
(Animal Science)

Meredith is an ecologist and NSF postdoctoral scholar at Princeton University in the Pringle Lab. She studies predator-prey dynamics in African and North American terrestrial mammal systems, examining the direct and indirect effect of predators on prey behavior, prey demography, and ecosystem functioning. She explorins anti-predator decision-making in large herbivores in response to predators such as lions, hyenas, cheetahs, wild dogs, leopards, and wolves, and tracks the cascading effects of predators on soil and plant communities.

Jill Kortenhof - Workforce Development Specialist - Ebenezer (Healthcare)

Jill will be sharing about the types of services/level of medical attention senior citizens can have, job opportunities for students, students with CNA certificate, and future job opportunities/growth for Ebenezer Senior Care and Living.

Additionally, she will share about realistic view of entry level jobs, duties, pay, and schedules, the skills needed, and how to apply and interview for healthcare positions.
