What are the conditions that must be met by a faculty member in order to be able to teach or supervise master's theses?

The Faculty member must have the rank of professor or associate professor, must have published two papers within the last 5 years. As for the assistant professor, he/she must have published two papers during the last 3 years.

What are the conditions that must be met by a faculty member in order to be a member of the Master's Thesis Defense Committee?

What are the conditions that should be met in the External member of the Committee of defense?

The Faculty member must have the rank of professor or associate professor and must have published two papers within the last 5 years.

What is the maximum number of students I can supervise?

This is defined by the rank: 6 students for professor, 4 students for the associate professor, and 2 students for the assistant professor.

Can the full-time lecturer teach or supervise in the Master's programs?

No, he/she can not.

Are there any certain requirements for the faculty members who prepare the master's comprehensive exam?

The Faculty member must have the rank of professor or associate professor.

How many members shall consist the Master’s thesis defense Committee?

Three members, at least one of them is an external member, in addition to the supervisor.

Questions About graduate scholarships

What is the minimum GPA that qualifies student for a full or half-scholarship?

80% and above for the half-grant, 85% and above for the full scholarship.

What is the minimum registered hours during the semester to get scholarship?

6 credit hours.

What is the maximum number of semester does the scholarship cover?

The scholarship covers 4 semesters for master students and 8 semesters for Ph.D. students.

Am I qualified to apply for another scholarship in case I had a scholarship in a specific semester and my GPA was below the minimum?

Yes, in case the required GPA is increased.

Is it allowed to drop a course during the semester in which I have a scholarship?

Yes, provided that 6 hours at least are registered, and student will incur the fees of dropped course.

What are the consequences of failing a course during the semester I am receiving a scholarship?

The grant will not cover the fees of course if you received a scholarshipthe next semester.

Is it allowed to withdraw from the scholarship after being received?

Yes, however student shall pay the fees of courses in addition to the tuition fees.

What are the duties of the student who receive a scholarship?

Research and Teaching Assistant and any duties assigned by the department.

When can I apply for a scholarship for the next semester?

After the results of the current semester.

What are the conditions for obtaining a scholarship for a student in the first semester?

Ranking among the first three in your Bachelor cohort, in addition to submit a signed and sealed letter from the deanship of student affairs shows the rank.

Could the student who was not qualified to apply for scholarship in the first semester apply in the following semesters?

Yes, providing that the GPA is 85% and above for full scholarship, 80% and above for half scholarship.

Is it allowed to postpone the semester in case of unusual circumstance occurs?

Yes, it is allowed providing that postponement is made within the first week of semester.

How many semesters maximum could be postponed for master’s programs?

Two sequenced or separated semesters.

What are the procedures to postpone a semester?

Apply for postponement request through the student’s account on the admission and registration system, on e-services choose “semester postponement service”.

How many semester maximum are allowed for obtaining the master’s degree?

6 semesters, with ability to postpone two semesters and extend two semesters, accordingly the total is 8 semesters.

Is it allowed to transfer for second time from one track to another?

Yes, it is allowed upon the decision of the deans’ council.

What is the maximum number of hours that can be registered in a semester?

12 credit hours.

What is the minimum number of hours that can be registered in a semester?

3 credit hours upon the approval of the head of department.

Is it allowed to study courses outside of the study plan?

Yes.

Having studied courses in another university, can these courses be counted from the study plan?

Yes, the maximum number of hours to be credited are 9, on condition that a course description is provided, in addition to a signed transcript from the admission and registration unit from your previous attended university, then submit application.

Is it allowed to transfer from one master’s program to another?

Yes, upon the approval of both departments and available vacancies.

Can I made an objection against the final mark of specific course after the result are issued?

Yes, within the period allowed.

When does the student get an academic warning?

If the GPA falls below 75%, while this does not apply to the first year student in the first semester.

How could the master’s student redress the academic warning?

The student shall raise the GPA to 75% in the next semester after the warning was issued.

Is there a certain period to redress the academic warning?

Yes, one semester.

How and when can I transfer to the thesis track?

After completing 12 credited hours, and by providing a recommendation letter from a faculty staff, then apply for the transference on the system of graduate studies.

Is it allowed to apply for the comprehensive exam before completing all courses in the study plan?

Yes, it is allowed in case the exam is in concurrence with one course only, and submit the form of “pledge the Comprehensive exam - concurrent with a course” on the graduate system.

What is the minimum GPA required to apply to the comprehensive exam?

75%.

What are the followed procedures to apply for the comprehensive exam?

Apply on approval of taking the comprehensive exam online and register for the exam.

What is the grade required to pass the comprehensive exam?

70%, the student’s result is scored in his/her grades record as (pass) or (fail).

Does the comprehensive exam cover all courses in the study plan?

Not necessarily; it depends on the decision of the department.

Is it allowed to apply for the comprehensive exam without being registered in the given semester?

No, it is not allowed.

Can I undergo the comprehensive exam in the summer semester?

Yes.

What are the followed procedures to obtain my certificate after completing and passing the comprehensive exam?

Start with clearance procedures after the decision of graduation is issued in order to obtain the degree certificates.

Would the comprehensive track be an impediment to apply for the PhD program in renowned international university?

No, the comprehensive exam is considered a model for many renowned universities, and your application to PhD could be supported with the conferences and scientific researches published in renowned international journals.

When can I appoint a supervisor on the Master Thesis?

After passing 12 credit hours.

What are the followed procedures to appoint a supervisor?

Find a subject for the thesis and present it to an eligible faculty member to supervise, after getting approval, follow the procedure for appointing a supervisor on the graduate studies system.

Is there any specific forms that shall be filled to appoint a supervisor?

Apply the procedure of Supervisor appointment on the graduate studies system through by logging in to the students account on the registration and admission system.

What is the first step towards the thesis after appointing a supervisor?

The student shall present the Master Thesis Proposal then upload it on the graduate studies system.

What are the procedures followed to apply for the thesis defense?

Apply for the procedure of placement the Readiness of the Thesis for Defense, in addition to the supervisor’s approval of conducting a Master Thesis' Defense (non-objection), then many procedures will follow as (Student's Pledge of Adherence to Regulations during the defense of a Master's Thesis, Pledge and Adherence to Ethical Standards and Scientific Honesty) after that comes the Appointment of the Defense Committee and setting date of defense.

What are the procedures towards the graduation and certification after the defense of thesis and apply the needed modifications?

Apply for the procedure Delivering Master Thesis to the Library on the graduate school system and follow the procedures of graduation through the head of department.

Is there any specific format and content should be followed for writing the thesis?

Please refer to the graduate School website and review the Thesis Writing guidelines available with video.

How many paper copies of the thesis shall be submitted to complete the procedures of clearance?

Two copies.

What are the procedures of clearance that shall be followed after completing all requirements to obtain the certificate?

The clearance form is submitted electronically through the student account on the admission and registration system, on e-services (request for clearance for the graduate studies).

How the appointment of committee of thesis defense is done?

The committee is appointed by the thesis supervisor.

Is it allowed to transfer from the thesis track to comprehensive track and what are the procedures?

Yes, follow the procedure of (transfer track) on the graduate system.

Could I make the defense of thesis in parallel with my courses semester?

No, this is not allowed.

Could the defense of thesis done in a semester without registration?

No, this is not allowed.

Can I appoint a supervisor from outside the department or college?

Yes.

Is it allowed to appoint the thesis supervisor from outside the university?

This is allowed in certain justified cases.

Is it allowed to appoint a thesis supervisor other than my courses professors?

Yes.
